Animal Logic, Australia's digital animation and special effects studio (The LEGO Movie, Peter Rabbit, Happy Feet) confirmed that the next project produced by their animation studio in Vancouver will be the animated film of Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz (known in Italy as Toto and the Wizard of Oz) with the musical adaptation. The Warner Animation Group film is based on the book by award-winning British author Michael Morpurgo.
The family film aims to connect audiences of all age groups, appealing to fans of the original M film.needle of oz, while introducing history to a whole new generation. Told from the perspective of Dorothy's beloved canine companion, the script was written by John August (Frankenweenie, Aladdin 2019), with two-time Tony nominee Alex Timbers assigned to direct. The film will be produced by Derek Frey, who previously directed Tim Burton Productions.
Pre-production has begun for the animated film, with Timbers currently meeting key creatives and producers in Vancouver and the recruitment of artists and professionals is on the rise in the coming months.
Pools is the latest product in a prolific partnership between Animal Logic and Warner Bros. that has spanned more than 20 years. The Vancouver studio is currently producing an animated film based on the franchise DC Super Pets, directed by Jared Stern and due out in 2022. Known internationally as a digital hub, particularly for animation, Vancouver's strong talent group has allowed the studio to continue its growth and success alongside their headquarters of Sydney.
