Two-year vacation - the 1982 anime film

Two years of vacation (original title 十五 少年 漂流 記 Jugo Shounen Hyouryuuki) is an anime television special produced in 1982 by Toei Animation directed by Masayuki Akihi and inspired by the novel Two Years of Vacation by the French writer Jules Verne, published in 1888. It was broadcast in Japan on August 22, 1982 on Fuji TV. In Italy it was imported by the ITB (which also released it on VHS) and broadcast in 1984 on local networks.

History

The story takes place in March 1860 and opens with a group of schoolchildren between the ages of eight and fourteen aboard a 100-ton schooner called Sleuth docked in Auckland, New Zealand, and preparing to leave for a six week vacation. With the exception of the older boy Gordon, an American, and Briant and Jack, two French brothers, all the boys are British.

While the crew of the schooner is ashore, the moorings are disembarked under unknown circumstances and the ship drifts out to sea, where it is caught in a storm. Twenty-two days later, the boys find themselves thrown on the coast of an unexplored island, which they call "the president's island". They face many adventures and even capture wild animals while trying to survive. They remain there for the next two years until a passing ship sinks in the immediate vicinity of the island. The ship had been taken over by mutineers, intent on trafficking in slaves. With the help of two of the surviving members of the original crew, the boys are able to defeat the mutineers and escape the island, which they discover is located near the Chilean coast.
