At the VIEW 2020 Awards in Turin: “Migranti” wins the best short film

VIEW confab of animation and VFX based in Italy has announced the winners of the award for the animated short film of its 2020 virtual festival. The president of the jury and the director of the VIEW conference, Maria Elena Gutierrez, noted the exceptional overall quality of the voices in the 2020 competition.

“The jurors were impressed with the variety of animation types and stories,” said Gutierrez. "And they said the level of production that the participants have come up with is insane."

Award for the best short film: Migrants

An 8'17 "film by fifth year students Zoé Devise, Lucas Lermytte, Hugo Caby, Aubin Kubiak and Antoine Dupriez of POLE 3D in Roubaix, France, sends two polar bears hunted into exile due to global warming in search of a new house . Unfortunately, the immigrant ice floe docks in a territory ruled by proprietary brown bears. Jurors noted the importance of the film's strong, plot-based metaphors of climate change and immigration treated in an emotional, profound and unique way. The cunning textures of the knitted polar bears and fuzzy brown bears contributed to a beautiful overall look. The nine-member international jury unanimously awarded this unique and wonderful film the first prize of € 2.000.

Jury Prize: Latitude du Printemps

A 7'34 “film by Sylvain Cuvillier, Chloé Bourdic, Théophile Coursimault, Noémie Halberstam, Maŷlis Mosny and Zijing Ye, recently awarded the Master of the Rubika School of Valenciennes, France. In this unpredictable film, a dog, abandoned by the side of the road and attached to a lamppost, meets a young aspiring astronaut and a professional cyclist trying to beat his high score. The jury loved the innovative storytelling, the refreshing animation and most of all the fact that it was so fun to watch, and awarded this film the € 2020 VIEW 500 jury prize.

Honorable mention: Treasure

In this seven-minute film directed by Alexandre Manzanares, two sea explorers and treasure hunters disturb a love story between an octopus and his beloved. The jury praised the clever animation in the parallel plots and awarded this film a € 2020 VIEW 200 Honorable Mention.

Dead hands of Dublin

Honorable mention: Dead hands of Dublin

Directed by Leo Crowley. A pair of enchanted gloves transform a failed pianist into a master. But fate lends a cruel hand to the pianist. The jury appreciated the fantastic writing, the courageous use of a limerick, the pacing and the lack of pretensions and awarded this film the second VIEW 2020 Honorable Mention of 200 euros.

ItalianMix Award 2020: For Teddy

In this three-minute film directed by Marco Giglio of the Big Rock School of Animation and Visual Effects, a lifeless teddy bear receives an exhilarating farewell from his Space Marine friends. Director Giglio receives a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet.

The nine-member international jury met practically this year. Jurors included: journalist Barbara Robertson, president of the jury; The director of the VIEW conference Maria Elena Gutierrez, president of the jury; Terry Flores, Senior Editor of Variety; Celine Desrumaux, award-winning production designer; Steve Meunch, animated film investor and fan; Kristina Morss, video editor, sound designer and Closing credits podcast host; Theodore Ty, global head of character animation at DNEG; Dylan Sisson, digital artist and Pixar RenderMan evangelist; and Francesco Narciso, graduated in design and visual communication at the Polytechnic of Turin.
