VRE - Virtual Reality Experience arrives in the city of MODENA on 9-10 and 11 September

VRE, in collaboration with Open Laboratory of Modena, presents Best of VRE, a selection of the most significant works presented during the past editions of VRE - Virtual Reality Experience, the first Italian festival entirely dedicated to immersive technologies.

In the evocative spaces of the former AEM power plant, Viale Buon Pastore 43 in Modena, spectators will have the opportunity to experience VR technology, wearing the special viewers in the pre-established stations and watching some of the most engaging immersive experiences produced in recent years.

This year Best of VRE - Virtual Reality Experience offers:

  • 22.7 by Jan Kounen, Molécule, Amaury La Burthe - France. 2019
    A lonely journey to Greenland with electronic music producer Molécule intent on capturing the sounds of the Arctic while working on his new songs. An initiatory VR Experience of enormous visual appeal.

AYAHUASCA: KOSMIK JOURNEY by Jan Kounen - France 2019
A visionary experience through the realms of medicinal plants, led by the indigenous Shipibo, a traditional healer in the Amazon rainforest. This mind-blowing experience represents a journey through one of the most mysterious and spiritual practices on the planet: Ayahuasca, the plant of the soul.


1ST STEP by Joerg Courtial - Germany 2019
1st Step tells the magical story of the Apollo missions, from launching the rocket to returning to earth. For the first time, viewers will experience this amazing adventure in a completely new way, through the subjective view of astronauts.

At the Open Laboratory of Modena, together with VRE also the works of VeniceVR (tag) in progress at the 78th Venice International Film Festival.

THE GREAT C by Steve Miller - Canada 2018
Based on the science fiction tale by Philip K. Dick, The Great C is a cinematic storytelling that features a thrilling storyline, stunning environments and a powerful soundtrack.

VRE - Virtual Reality Experience (VRE), conceived and directed by Mariangela Matarozzo, produced by the Iconialab cultural association, is an international festival dedicated to the world of immersive technologies (VR, AR, MR) and their use and impact in the Arts, Culture, in the Enhancement of Cultural Heritage, in Science and Medicine, in Learning, in Industry.

The nature of VRE is that of a multiform organism that adapts to the surfaces it encounters, in a universe, that of the XRs in constant expansion. We show the talent of young national and international artists and we are committed to spreading creative techniques and new perspectives that cross all arts and knowledge. The focus on XR embraces highly topical issues, and addresses the borderline issues that the use of these new tools entails. 

VRE 2021 - EXTENDED EDITION

VRE21 aims to be a more inclusive, interactive and open event towards any form of immersive storytelling. A showcase for innovative works that cross cinema, art, technologies. The 2021 program proposes 30 projects and is enriched with the presence of installations of works in Mixed Reality and Augmented Reality.

For a greater diffusion of the VRE works with the consequent expansion of the public, VRE21 has started a collaboration with some of the most prestigious museums and cultural realities that will host a selection of the works in the program. The five Satellite Venues are: National Cinema Museum of Turin, Open Laboratory of Modena, National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo Da Vinci of Milan, MEET - Digital Culture Center of Milan, Cantieri Culturali at the Zisa of Palermo.

VRE will be phygital: in presence in the main location in Rome and in the five VRE Satellite Venues and on digital platforms with international diffusion entirely dedicated to XR works. 

A hybrid format that allows to offer the rich programming made up of cinema, VR Interactive, talks, workshops, digital experience, XR performances to an increasingly numerous public number.

This year VRE inaugurates the collaboration with the REF - Romaeuropa Festival with the co-production of the theatrical show in VR So it is (or I think) Pirandello VR, which sees the adaptation and direction of Elio Germano. A rewrite for virtual reality of Luigi Pirandello's 'So it is (if you think)'. 

The presence of VRE is confirmed among the Resonances of the 2021 Film Festival: "we will thus have the opportunity to broaden the horizon of our event towards the most advanced frontiers of vision by involving the public in new and unexpected experiences between experimentation, interaction and immersion ”, Declares Laura Delli Colli - President of the Cinema per Roma Foundation. 

Another novelty of VRE21 is the “NeXt GeneRation Italia NGI - XR challenge”, a Call for innovative entrepreneurial projects useful to concretely help the country to achieve the objectives of the Next Generation Italy, the Plan to build the future of our nation. Deadline 30 September 2021, award ceremony on 15 October 2021.
