Watch: Paramount Releases New Teaser for "Clifford the Big Red Dog"

Fans of Scholastic's famous giant dog Clifford the Big Red Dog got a preview of the property's upcoming hybrid adaptation at today's party. The film, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 17, is directed by Walt Becker (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Old Dogs) from a screenplay by Jay Scherick and David Ronn (The Smurfs, The Smurfs 2), and Blaise Hemingway (Uglydolls, Playmobil: The Movie). The cast includes Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp, Tony Hale, Sienna Guillory, David Alan Grier, Russell Wong and John Cleese.

The film is based on Norman Bridwell's popular Scholastic book series Clifford the great red dog, which was first released in 1963. PBS Kids aired an animated series based on the property from September 2000 to February. 2003 (produced by Scholastic and Mike Young Productions) followed by The days of Clifford's puppies (2003-2006). Amazon Prime Video and PBS also aired a new animated series in 2019. The property has also inspired several video games.

The official synopsis of the new film reads: “When middle school student Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gives her a small red puppy, she never expected to wake up to find a giant hound. in his small apartment in New York City. While her single mother (Sienna Guillory) is away on business, Emily and her funny but impulsive Uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) embark on an adventure that will keep you in suspense as our heroes grab a bite of the Big Apple. Based on the beloved character from Scholastic's book, Clifford will teach the world how to love big!

The Paramount Pictures release is made in association with eOne Films and New Republic Pictures. It is produced by Jordan Kerner and Iole Lucchese. Executive producers are Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer, Valerii An, Brian Bell, Caitlin Friedman, Deborah Forte and Lisa Crnic.
