The winners of the 12th edition of the Weird Market and 3D Wire Fest in Spain

In Segovia, Spain Weird Market e 3D Wire Fest closed their 12th edition with the list of winners, with nine projects and six short films in competition that received various awards from the 2020 selection of 43 productions from 24 different countries. This year, a new award has been added to the short film competition awards: the RTVE Video Game Weird Plus Award.

The 3D Wire Fest jury composed of French producer Edwina Liard (founder of IKKI Films), French-Colombian Melissa Vega (director of international sales, Dandelooo), Brazilian Paula Taborda dos Guaranys (director of original content, co-professionals & acquisitions, Planeta Junior) and the Spanish Jorge Sanz (director, Aguilar de Campoo Int'l Short Film Festival) award the best national short film to Camila Kater flesh (Meat), which adds to his accolades from the Locarno, Annecy, Málaga and Huesca festivals. A special mention was also given to Mad in XPain by Coke Riobóo. The South Korean short film Mascot by Leeha Kim and the Icelandic film yes people by Gísli Darri Halldórsson received awards for the best international and European short film respectively.

The second of the fundamental axes of Weird Market is the call for projects. In 2020, a total of 203 were selected for the catalog, of which nine make up the list of winners focused, in this section, on projects for short films, series, web series and video games.

The first of these is the Movistar + Short Film Project Award for He Ran Towards His Comrade (He ran towards his companion) by Genís Rigol. The recognition includes the acquisition of broadcasting rights by Movistar + for € 9.000 for a period of two years (unlimited number of subscriptions), with exclusivity for the first year. Furthermore, the short will be officially released in the 2021 or 2022 edition of Weird Market.

For its part, RTVE has awarded three awards. The one aimed at the most innovative video game proposal went to Gylt by Tequila Works; while the most innovative VR video game project is that of Mighty Polygon relicta. Finally, a new award was created called the RTVE Video Game Weird Plus Award, for the video game that breaks the mold, which was awarded Alt254 by Rename Studio. These projects now have the opportunity to be presented to the RTVE Interactive Directorate.

In the New Talents section, the best creator of young series projects went Welcome to Fucking Rainbowland  by Nuño Benito and Nacho Subirats (Spain), obtaining free professional accreditation for the next edition of Annecy-MIFA. Another recognized design is the il series Villa Fábula , giving creator Víctor Marín a free seat in Media Training Consulting's executive production course for animated shorts, series and feature films.

Welcome to Fucking Rainbowland

Regarding the call for projects of online animation series in collaboration with Átomo Network, the Átomo Grand Prix for the best web series presented at Toque de quena (rota people), by Gabriel Lucero (Argentina).

Last but not least, the Robot Atómico Award was awarded F #% @ My family by Ricardo Abraham (Ríe Animation, Mexico) and the Átomo Network Award went to Fail in Love by Cécile Rousset, Romain Blanc-Tailleur and Adrienne Nowak (Darjeeling Productions, France).

The award ceremony closed an edition that combined both in-person activities and virtual elements in a hybrid format; managing to maintain Weird Market's commitment to the industry and the public, both physically and online.
