“Wolfwalkers” will open the 2021 Anima Festival

Anima, the Brussels International Animation Film Festival, to be held from 12 to 21 February 2021, will kick off its 40th edition with wolfwalkers, the latest feature by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart.

The fourth feature by Irish studio Cartoon Saloon is full of legends and magic and completes Moore's Irish fairy tale trilogy, following on from The secret of Kells e Song of the sea, both nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Film in 2009 and 2015. Anima has presented both of these previous films in past editions.

This latest adventure follows what happens when Robyn, the hunter's daughter, meets Mebh, a strange, shaggy-haired girl who transforms into a wolf during the night. Their encounter will take the two to a magical and fascinating world as they roam the forest in search of other wolves in this family-friendly film that celebrates friendship and nature through its fantastic story and dazzling visual world.

“The Soul Festival has followed Moore's outstanding work from the very beginning. We immediately believed in his talent and it is a great honor to open this 40th Festival with him, ”said Anima co-director Dominique Seutin.

Bregt Van Wijnendaele, Head of Film at JEF, who is co-distributing the film in Belgium with Le Parc Distribution, added: “We strongly believe in the big screen experience and even more so with an instant classic like wolfwalkers. This is why we are very proud to show the film on the big screen with Anima in such a special moment “.

wolfwalkers will be released on February 17, 2021 by JEF in Dutch-speaking Belgium and by Le Parc Distribution in French-speaking Belgium in April 2021 (exact date to be confirmed).

Details of the entire Anima program will be announced on January 19th on www.animafestival.be
