The story of the orphan Anna Shirley, Canadian, taken from a novel, is told from the first years of her life, when she is tossed from one family to another due to a whole series of unfortunate circumstances, which will however shape her character. and will lead it to ripen ahead of time. Eventually Anna is adopted by the brothers Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert in the town of Avonlea, who see her transform from the last years of her childhood until her adolescence into a responsible and study-loving young lady. Over the years the dualism with Gilbert, the most gifted boy in the school, will lead Anna to excel but also to experience a profound disappointment when Gilbert will abandon her studies to become a teacher. After Matthew's death, however, Anna renounces the scholarship she won as the best student to stay at the side of Marilla, now old and sick. A choice that will lead her to re-establish the bond with Gilbert, and to be able to live with serenity the years that will lead her to maturity, becoming the teacher of the Avonlea school thanks to the place left her by Gilbert ....
