The 25-episode series, lasting 24 minutes each, was produced in 1986 by Studio Pierrot in collaboration with Kitty Films.
The protagonist is Sandy (Yumi Hanazono in the original Japanese), a little girl who has a passion for drawing and loves the flowers that her parents grow, who run the shop and nursery called "Flower shop". One day Sandy decides to paint an old white wall, with lots of colors. The corpulent Mrs. Trudi opposes this initiative, as she is allergic to flowers and therefore also to colors. Mrs. Trudi makes her little dog "Pulce" ruin Sandy's masterpiece and also wants to uproot a flower, despite Sandy trying to protect it. At a certain point, as if by magic, petals rain down from the sky, which make the allergic lady escape. This strange phenomenon happened due to the magic of two elves called Pico and Paco, coming from the town of Fiorelandia. To reward Sandy for this heroic gesture, they give her a magic wand capable of materializing any of her designs. Sandy tries to draw a winged horse that immediately materializes, making it fly over the roofs of the houses. Meanwhile, his parents are preparing to exhibit their floral creation at the "Carnival Flower" city competition. Sandy suddenly arrives in the flower shop and combines the trouble of ruining, the hard work of her father Maurizio, who had made a flower doll. To overcome this inconvenience, Sandy thanks to her magic wand, creates a beautiful dress full of flowers, with which she parades at the event, managing to win the first prize. His father is thrilled because thanks to that award, he will be able to attract more customers to his shop. Unfortunately, however, a serious unexpected happens. The magic of Pico and Paco has a limited effect in time and at a certain point, a strong wind rises on the stage, which makes Sandy's dress disappear, leaving her shamefully in panties in front of the audience. One day Sandy's parents are frightened when they hear on the news that a ferocious gorilla has escaped from the zoo and is wandering around their city and are terrified when they see a gentleman with a big bum entering their house. Luckily it is Cesare, Sandy's grandfather, who, unlike his son Maurizio, is an athletic type, who has traveled half the world and wants to hunt down the gorilla. The grandfather convinces Sandy to be his travel companion, but the girl plans to make her grandfather give up on this undertaking. When they walk through the woods of their city, Sandy comes face to face with the ferocious gorilla and passes out with fright. Sandy wakes up in her bed, but wants to save her grandfather who is determined to face the gorilla with his bare hands. With his magic wand, he draws a large eagle, which from the window of his house, takes it into the woods. Here he draws a good gorilla, which will be used to make his grandfather believe that he has defeated the ferocious gorilla. The grandfather confronts the gorilla and with a violent punch knocks him out, but for an unexpected magic mistake, he defeats the real gorilla and Sandy faints again at the thought of the narrow escape. In the episode "Down with diets" we find Mrs. Trudi who enjoys spying on little Sandy with her telescope. Thus he also manages to discover the existence of the two elves Pico and Paco. Being passionate about science fiction and firmly convinced of the existence of UFOs, she decides to take pictures of those strange beings, just when Sandy enjoys creating the scribbles of her drawings. Mrs. Trudi, wearing a gas mask for her allergy to flowers, enters with great rudeness in Sandy's room, where her friend Ciccio is also located. Suddenly, a crowd of flowers coming from the window, forces her to flee, but the lady doesn't give up. She then decides to climb up the gutter pipe, but once she gets to the window, she sees nothing but Sandy taking a shower, who promptly sprays water on her head. In order to give a nice lesson to that nosy Mrs. Trudi, Sandy, with her magic wand, decides to create a double of the lady. After knocking out the real Mrs. Trudi by making her pass out with the smell of some flowers, he makes his double go around town by promising to create a zoo in the park of his villa. This arouses the enthusiasm of all the children and even the guardians are working to free the animals from the zoo. When the poor lady wakes up, she finds herself surrounded by giraffes, elephants and animals of all kinds ... imagine her desperation. Among the other characters in the series we find Maura, Sandy's mother from whom the little girl inherited the passion for drawing, often a bit dazed and dreamy, will try to support her daughter in all her desires. Then we find Roby the shy and handsome shop assistant, who has a passion for hang gliding and gives private lessons to a large group of his admirers. Ciccio is the younger brother of Roby, Sandy's classmate, he always shows himself generous towards his friend, also showing a little jealousy towards his brother.
The Sandy series with a thousand colors enters fully into the Shojo genre and deals with the same issues, already addressed by Studio Pierrot in the famous "Lulu the angel among the flowers " even if at this stage, we find more mature and less fairy-tale themes, as magic will not always be able to solve all the problems.
