Shooting a film, already thinking about its sequel, is a practice that has long been established in large production companies, ready to plan well in advance the best possible strategy to make the most of a successful film. Precisely for this reason, many scripts are now made with the clear intention of exploiting every possible grip capable of giving life to subsequent episodes that are again able to interest the progenitor's users, thus reviving their commercial success. The rule could not therefore escape "Clash of the Titans", a successful 2010 film and remake of the homonymous film released in 1981, which lent itself in the best way to the needs of shooting a second episode, thanks to a series of characters with great potential. The sequel is now upon us, to the delight of the many who had enjoyed the first episode, with the title "Wrath of the Titans", and sees a change in direction, which was expected. by many, given the flaws exhibited by the same, in the course of which the reinterpretation of mythology developed by Louis Leterrier had lent the side to many criticisms.

The criticisms of the previous film
The first episode, on the one hand, stood out for the energy which is the greatest value of a “muscular” director like Leterrier, on the other hand he was not able to characterize the characters at best. Precisely for this reason, the film had received slurs in series by specialized critics, who had not failed to underline the inconsistencies and deficiencies of the plot, with tones that had bordered on real mockery. The bad artistic judgment, however, had been greatly mitigated by the enormous public success reserved for the film by the large masses of fans of the subject, who had nevertheless decided to view it without being overcome by the possible prejudice created by the critics, with a flattering economic response.

This time, however, the production, clearly intending to leave nothing to chance and to make the most of the commercial potential of the event, has decided to remove Leterrier from the control room and entrust it to that Jonathan Liebesman who has already had the opportunity to to stand out thanks to works such as "At the Fall of Darkness", "World Invasion" and "The Killing Room", and from which many expect a real change of gear. A change that was announced by the director himself, in an interview during which he expressly stated that "The Fury of the Titans" will have a devastating effect on all those who love the world of mythology and that it is his intent not to disappoint at all. the great expectations of that vast audience formed by all those who have already had the opportunity to enjoy the vision of the first act. A proposition that is also based, and could only be so, on the continuity with the things that had worked in the first episode: if in fact the guide has changed, on the other hand it has remained the backbone of the story, composed by Liam Neeson (formerly admired in "Schindler's List" and "Gangs of New York"), Sam Worthington (acclaimed star of "Avatar") And Ralph Fiennes (" Strange Days "," The Reader "among his greatest hits), the sensational actors who had been able to go beyond Leterrier's flaws by means of a skill that was almost universally recognized and who had finally pushed" Clash of the Titans ”to an excellent result at the box office.

The history of the film
Now, the Titans return with a story that is set ten years after the defeat of the monstrous Kraken and sees Perseus (Sam Worthington), son of Zeus, grappling with the normal events in which a fishing village is usually immersed. His life is enlivened by a ten-year-old son, Helius, whom he has to take care of alone. However, normality is about to end and the danger looms again on the world of humans, this time originating from the fact that they have now stopped praying and believing in the gods of Olympus. The consequence of the lack of devotion sees the deities gradually but inexorably lose their powers, at a time when the Titans, led by Kronos, father of Zeus (a great Liam Neeson), Hades (a Ralph Fiennes competing in skill with Neeson) and Poseidon (Danny Huston), are trying to organize their rematch. The very children, long ago, had ousted Kronos, imprisoning him in the deep caves of Mount Tartaro, in the Underworld, hoping in this way to have neutralized him forever. The latter, however, never completely resigned to the loss of power, manages to give rise to an alliance with Hades, extending the agreement to Ares (played by Édgar Ramírez), to overthrow Zeus in turn, who is captured. To prevent this attempt from being successful, Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike, chosen from an extremely large and qualified squad), Agenor and Hephaestus decide to ask for the help of Perseus, who finally agrees to side with the gods in the epic battle that is about to begin and to descend into the Underworld to free his father, turn the tide of the battle and save humanity from a destiny that now seems to be sealed.

3D effects
If the biggest weakness of the first episode, in addition to the narrative flaws, had been the choice to shoot it in 2D and then convert it only at a later time to three-dimensional, with results much lower than expected, this time the production immediately opted for the power of the stereoscopic, the best indeed to better immortalize the epic battles that are the most spectacular part of "The Fury of the Titans", with a series of special effects that can already be admired in the trailers in circulation, from which the highlighted defects seem to have disappeared in the first act. The change in the control room was matched by that concerning the script, which passed from the hands of Greg Berlanti to the duo formed by David Leslie Johnson and Dan Mazeau. Filming began on March 23, 2011, near London, with subsequent episodes in Surrey and the Canary Islands, specifically on the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera. Of course, the wait for "The Fury of the Titans" is almost spasmodic, especially among those who had already had the opportunity to enjoy the events of the first act of the saga. A wait that is however destined to last a few more days, in consideration of the simultaneous release all over the world scheduled for March 30, 2012.www.cartonionline.com
