Once men built the flying cities, but a catastrophe led to their destruction. They were then forced to return to live on Earth, but one city managed to survive: the legendary Laputa, hidden by a vortex of clouds. The story begins with Sheeta, a little girl who falls to earth from Colonel Muska's airship after the aircraft is attacked by Dola. They both have the same goal: to get hold of Sheeta's amulet to find the legendary Laputa. Meanwhile, the little girl makes an incredibly soft landing in the arms of Pazu, a boy whose father had previously sighted Laputa. The two become friends and the following day to escape, first from Dola and then from Muska's soldiers, they end up in an old mine where an eccentric old man reveals that in Sheeta's amulet there is the stone that is able to make Laputa fly. The two are then captured by Muska who is convinced that Sheeta is a descendant of the royal lineage of the flying city, after several twists they all find themselves in Laputa, but ...
