The teenager Shizuku has decided to spend the hot summer of 1994 reading about twenty books, taken from the library and discovers that they were all taken a short time before by the same boy: Seji Amasawa. Already the girl imagines that that mysterious reader is wonderful, since it seems to have the same tastes as her, then she is even more intrigued when on one of the books she has borrowed, she reads that it was donated in 1958 by a certain Mr. Amasawa. Between readings and sighs, Shizuku spends a lot of time with her friend Yuko, when one day she meets a boy who is at first sight unpleasant and who turns out to be the Seji reading his own books. One day Shizuku meets a strange cat on the subway, who makes the journey sitting next to her and when she gets off she follows him to a small shop, where she is fascinated by the strange objects on sale and by the kindness of the owner, an old gentleman who will reveal himself just be Seji's grandfather. A beautiful friendship is born between the two boys and both will realize their dreams: he will follow a luthier course and she will write a novel.
