Professor Tobyshima, a prominent Japanese scientist, is in command of an airbase based on Akane Island. The pilots who are part of his team are courageous and certainly reckless, but the surly Joe Kaisaka stands out among them. One day, during an acrobatic tournament, a gigantic unidentified object crashes in the vicinity of the base, and humanity comes into contact for the first time with an inhabitant of the mysterious planet Gaylar. Thus begins the story of Groizer X, who will see all the hopes of the protagonists, involved in spite of themselves in an interplanetary war of unprecedented ferocity, placed in the abilities of a powerful anthropomorphic robot. The events that see Joe Kaisaka, a pilot with undisputed skills and angular manners, and Rita, as beautiful as valiant gaylarian, fight side by side at the guide of the robot Groizer X to protect the Earth from the risk of an imminent invasion continue. The enemy, under the orders of the Emperor Geldon, becomes more and more aggressive, and not even the sweetness of the first, childish love will be able to mitigate its attacks. The Gaylarians adopt a truly cruel ploy to get the plans to build what could lead them to victory, regardless of the fact that it is only a child who pays the consequences. Sometimes the sense of duty and military rigor lead to commit actions contrary to one's will, as an old acquaintance of Rita will discover. The Groizer X, led by pilot Joe and valiant Rita, continues to be the only resource that the Japanese Ministry of Defense (and with it the whole world) can count on for the salvation of the planet. While diplomatic relations between Japan and a peaceful South American state seem hopelessly flawed, the ambition of a general in Geldon's service endangers the survival of Groizer X, and therefore of the entire human race. The Gaylarian attack strategy is gradually changing: the primary objective is no longer only to capture Rita and the powerful robot built by her father, but also to plunge the entire planet Earth into an unprecedented energy and food crisis, from which men would hardly be able to recover. However, not all followers of the insane Emperor Geldon think the same way. As the war against the cruel Geldon's Empire continues, tension increases among the members of Professor Tobyshima's team. When a childhood friend loses his life at the hands of the opponent, Baku too has to deal with an inevitable desire for revenge. The feelings of admiration and gratitude that little Sabu feels for Joe risk getting him into serious trouble, while Gen, who does not give up the dream of taking part in the fighting, aspires to command the Groizer Tank. Eliminating Joe becomes the priority of Dogos, the cunning and ruthless general in chief of the Gaylarian army, who does not escape the fact that the competence of the Groizer X pilot represents the main obstacle to his brilliant plans to destroy planet Earth. But a pinch of luck never hurts, and the Akan base needs it so much to foil, in this conflict made up of strategies and traps, the most cunning and dangerous enemy projects. Having filled the strategic gaps manifested during the first fights, the Gaylarians unleash tools and methods that are increasingly surprising and destabilizing for the resources available to Professor Tobyshima's team. The collaboration between the military intelligence of Dogos, general in chief of the armed forces, and the technical creativity of Goren, administrator of the Gaylarian scientific research unit, proves to be lethal for the Japanese army, and at the Ministry of Defense not all that remains is to ask for the intervention of the Groizer X. Joe's intuition that a rival robot hides inside a meteorite suddenly dropped from the sky is not enough to foil the brilliant intrigue prepared for the occasion by the other side, and the only skills of the pilots of the Akan base now seem insufficient to face the power of the devices built by the enemy engineers. The tricks already used previously, such as washing the brain, the drainage of human resources or the carpet bombing of the most important industrial and civil centers, the enemy supports new and frightening methods of attack. Among these, the most dangerous is the manipulation of meteorological events, which will throw the Earth at the mercy of uncontrollable electrical discharges or glacial temperatures. Now the sky is flown over by a second Groizer X, moved by much more bloody intentions than those for which Rita's father, Dr. Yan, had designed the robot. The showdown is near. More than a month has passed since the disappearance of a Japanese super tanker in the open sea, and all the members of the Akan base, moved by the hopes placed in them by the families of the 200 crew passengers, feel compelled to intensify the operations of Research. Distracted from the main mission that usually sees them engaged in the defense of Japan, Joe and Rita become involved in an enemy ambush so well thought out as to endanger their own lives. On the enemy front, Dogos entrusts the command of the space robot Skull to his adored nephew Gorgo, a very dangerous weapon capable of attacking the enemy from multiple angles. Unfortunately for Professor Tobyshima's staff it doesn't take long for the new opposing captain to find out what the Groizer X's weak point is.
