Starzinger cartoons (original title Science Fiction Saiyuki Starzinger) were made by Toei Animation based on the original manga of Leiji Matsumoto (the author of Capitan harlock, Galaxy Express 999, Star Blazers and many other successful series), which in turn is inspired by the classic Chinese literature "Journey to the West". Divided into 73 episodes of 30 minutes each, it made its debut on Japanese television screens in 1978 within the Fuji TV channel. In Italy it was known thanks to local broadcasters and many still remember the theme song sung by the Superobots.
The twentieth planet of the galaxy is in danger of being destroyed by space monsters, which with their spacecraft have devastated much of the inhabited surface.

Dr. Kitty explains to Princess Aurora that these monsters were once peaceful creatures, but that following the decrease in energy from the large planet in the center of the galaxy, they turned into evil and cruel creatures. Princess AuroraThe energy from the Great Planet is radiated by the Queen of the Great Planet, but due to her age, her strength is weakening and there is a need for a person of her height, endowed with the same transcendental power, who can take the its place. Doctor Kitty has identified that person thanks to the galactic waves that have indicated Princess Aurora herself as her heir, as she has this power since her birth. If she has the courage to go to this planet, facing the thousand dangers of the galaxy, Princess Aurora will be able to restore peace in the kingdom, as the space monsters will return to being peaceful creatures. Princess Aurora comes from the realm of the Moon, destroyed by the invasion of space monsters, when she was still a child. The king and queen had time to send her in a space rocket to earth before their death. Because of this drama, Princess Aurora finds the motivation to undertake this dangerous journey, in order to save all those planets, which risk being destroyed like hers. Aurora will be accompanied by an escort who will defend her from the dangers, which she will meet along the very long intergalactic journey. Its defender will be Jan Cogh, a very strong cyborg equipped with an Astral Javelin with a disintegrator, thanks to which he can tear apart tanks, spaceships, monsters and space missiles. Starzinger - Jan CoghYoung Jan Cogh was once a human being, who was transformed into a cyborg by Professor Dogge, after he volunteered to defend the earth. Initially he was given very simple tasks, such as painting old unusable missiles and for this Jan Cogh, in addition to a miscalculation by Professor Dogge, has developed a rebellious and unpredictable temperament. So following his indiscipline, Dr. Kitty locked him inside a transparent capsule, in the realm of the Moon. Princess Aurora will first have to go to the moon and free Jan Cogh with a device, given to her by Doctor Kitty, capable of deactivating the transparent dome and putting a crown on the cyborg's head so that she can obey her orders. Princess Aurora will be equipped with a space outfit to survive and breathe in the cosmos. Princess Aurora takes off aboard the spaceship "The Queen of the Cosmos" and heads for the Moon, her home planet, but is attacked by a pirate spaceship that forces her to make an emergency landing on the moon. Jan Cogh inside his capsule sees the princess in danger and falls in love with her at first sight. Although he initially did not want to undertake that mission, he is now looking forward to being released in order to defend the beautiful princess. StarzingerDespite being repeatedly bombarded by the rays, the princess manages to operate the device to dissolve the transparent dome and free the cyborg warrior. Jan Cogh unleashes his Astral Youngster and disintegrates the first pirates, then he takes the helm of his Star Crow aircraft and in a short time, defeats all the pirates of space. Jan Cogh does not spare the life of these monsters and this creates a deep disappointment on the part of Princess Aurora, who would like to transform those creatures back into peaceful beings, so she decides to embark on her journey alone. Jan Cogh then goes to earth to receive advice from Doctor Kitty and Professor Dooge. Once he realizes the dangers that can happen to the princess, outside the solar system, she sets off again with her Star Crow, equipped with hypersonic speed, to defend her from the aliens who are threatening her again. Thanks to the power of the astral oxidant and cosmic explosive, he manages to free the beautiful princess from the enveloping grip of the cosmic mud that imprisoned her. Given the determination of the cyborg and realizing the real dangers she faces, the princess finally decides to be accompanied by Jan Cogh, to the center of the galaxy. Following the two will also join Don Hakka, a greedy and plump cyborg, but very skilled in space combat, thanks to his shield and his chain. During the journey the group will also be joined by the cyborg Sir Gorgo, specialized in underwater combat, as he takes advantage of the powerful space trident.
