Spider-man is certainly one of the most loved superheroes in the world. Everyone knows the young man who, wearing a tight red and blue suit, flits around Manhattan jumping from skyscraper to skyscraper, whether he's a comic book enthusiast or not. Unlike many other newspapers, however, that ofSpiderman it focuses much more on who is behind the mask, what you feel and how you face your daily challenges, and it is precisely on this aspect that Webb has decided to focus.
The film therefore sheds light on a path of maturation, which marks the transition from adolescence to adulthood which, contrary to what many may think, is expressed above all through the emotional relationships that the young Peter manages to create, instead of the battles he manages to win.
Peter's life has always been marked by a huge void, the one left by his parents, who, when he was still at an early age, entrusted him to the care of his uncle Ben and his wife May. The two, having no children, took care of him as if he were their own, but adolescence brings with it new questions, the ones that Peter has almost unconsciously preferred not to ask himself, at least until the discovery of an old suitcase in the attic. This discovery brings up some documents that belonged to his father, which eventually lead him to the office of Dr. Connors, a friend of his parents and colleague of his father when he worked for Oscorp. It will be here that Peter will be bitten by the genetically modified spider that will give birth to his second identity, but this only happens after the presentation of the main theme, the loss of parents. The bite is therefore only an indirect consequence of the protagonist's maturation. It is therefore Peter who starts the story, and certainly not Spider-Man. Webb therefore decides to immediately distance himself from the previous Raimi trilogy, which has placed the life of the superhero at the center of his films, minimizing the analysis of the characters and the time dedicated to everything that were not special effects and fighting (and obviously the consequences that derived from these). It could almost be said that this time the man has snatched the scene from the spider, but inevitably the two will have to meet and clash sooner or later, but the director decides to take things calmly, allowing the necessary time for any sort of spectator to assimilate the best features of the protagonist.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" is therefore shot like any other film, that is, assuming that no one knows anything about the life of the characters projected on the screen. In this way the public finds themselves living together with Peter the rediscovery of himself, just like any teenager, with the only difference that in this case the difficulties to be faced are much more, starting from opening a door without breaking it to pieces. , up to the strange attraction towards flies. We are therefore witnessing an in-depth and well-defined analysis of the life of a "particular" teenager, who does not absurdly decide to become a superhero overnight, or to make money with his new skills, but rather chooses the most obvious of all, to find out what fate has given him, assuming that it is fate. Fans have waited a long time for Raimi to decide to deal with one of the most touching themes of the entire saga, but above all one of the most dear to Peter himself, the disappearance of his parents. Unfortunately, however, Raimi has never had a good relationship with spider fans, and his trilogy was based almost exclusively on Goblin, to then end it all with a third chapter in a collage version, which mixed the cards a bit, however, raising a huge annoying fuss, which when it dissolved left a bitter void of content. Webb, on the other hand, hits the mark on the first shot, showing how Peter's life was not without problems before his transformation and Uncle Ben's death, but that a huge emptiness plagued his soul long beforehand. Here is where the now classic shrewd irony of the young Parker comes from, for which every moment is good to joke and try to play down the situation, whether it is an evening with a girl or a face to face with a huge lizard.

Another difference with the character's filmic past is love, which this time bursts with what the comic has crowned as Peter's first love, Gwen Stacy. In Raimi's product, the beautiful blonde, daughter of the police chief, gives her place entirely to the provocative redhead Mary Jane Watson, but Webb gives her back her rightful place, locking her up in a special place in the spider man's heart, from which our neighborhood spider man will never get rid of her. In any case, for him who represents the classic nerd with above-average intelligence, the interest shown by the beautiful Gwen takes him by surprise, leaving him thrilled at first but sweetly comforted later. In fact, Gwen, his Gwen, quickly becomes everything that Peter has always wanted, and in addition to love, she manages to give him the necessary serenity to be able to confess every little detail of his two lives. After the fateful bite, however, it is impossible to clearly separate the man from the spider, and so Webb, after a careful and never boring presentation, decides that it is time to give space to the mask. Peter intends to find out the truth about his parents, and obviously carries on this task even when wearing his flashy uniform, which however has the small defect of always attracting new troubles, which in this film are hidden behind the name of Lizard. Also this time we are faced with one of the many requests made by fans in the many relevant forums around the web, and once again Webb has decided to please the public, a true judge and executioner, who had been waiting for a long time to witness the entrance on the scene of one one of the most interesting villains of the spider saga, above all for his close relationship with the protagonist's parents. In fact, the huge and frightening lizard is none other than the uncontrollable alter ego of Dr. Connors. It will be the clashes between the two, but not only, to show the best of Peter's moves, who, unlike what Tobei Maguire's alter ego did, moves in a much more realistic way.

Sure spider man has super powers, but he's not a god like Thor, and he's certainly not immune to the laws of physics. The director therefore chooses not to make traveling around the city a simple routine, which after the first scenes already loses interest, and the only possible way was to bring these scenes closer to everyday reality. Of course the cobwebs do most of the work, but the agility of the character is evident, which in some scenes offers almost flashes of parkour. The winning choice of Webb therefore seems to have been to look to the past, the comic book obviously, making spider man more similar to the one acclaimed for decades by readers all over the world, but above all fascinating for those few who consider the spider man only " one in tights ". However, there is not only the past in "The Amazing Spider-Man", and this is evident from the choice of the protagonists, who are rightly included in the unfortunately not long list of young rising stars of world cinema. It is therefore a real confirmation for both Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, who had already been able to amaze in their previous experiences, but this time, together on the screen, they are able to really give their best, in a close-knit couple, accomplice and sometimes hilarious. Certainly, however, an applause goes to the young Garfield, who does not miss his great opportunity, showing the expressiveness of a consummate actor, who captivates the viewer and above all manages to involve him, especially in the slower and more dramatic scenes of the film. However, no member of the cast is deserving of an insufficiency, and, beyond the protagonists, some applause also manage to snatch it Denis Leary and Rhys Ifans, who respectively play Captain Stacy, father of Gwen, and Doctor Curt Connors, alias Lizard. Well characterized the character of Stacy, who never represents the slightly stupid policeman who chases a prey as a hunting dog would do with a fox. In fact, he is intelligent and intuitive enough to analyze the situations that evolve around him, and perhaps even to understand who is actually hiding behind that mask. However, the path that Dr. Connors must face is also admirable, decidedly not faced with superficiality, but not too much in detail, leaving the viewer the pleasure of mystery, which in a film of this kind, which disseminates clues around that easily let us think of a sequel , it becomes fundamental.

An excellent cast is therefore the basis of the film, and to this is added the intelligent rediscovery of the protagonist's paper origins, but this is obviously not enough for Webb. The American director in fact shows off important details within the plot and also takes the risk of a fundamental choice of direction. Among the details that true fans will certainly have hated in the Raimi trilogy is certainly the origin of Peter's web. In fact, when Tobie discovers that he has powers, he can do nothing but test them, climbing first on the walls of his own room and then on the walls of a building, finally managing to throw cobwebs from his wrists, but performing an unusual gesture, almost as if the middle and ring fingers folded into the center of the palm in search of a button to operate. Unfortunately, however, not even the shadow of buttons, and that gesture therefore seems nothing more than a classic rock concert gesture. But Webb comes to the rescue and gives Peter the credit for having built a fascinating device, a web shooter, but above all the most important gift he can always count on, his incredible intelligence. In fact, Peter is not only a smart boy, but he is what many would call a real genius, and "The Amazing Spider-Man" seems to remember him well, and this can only enrich the character. The difficult choice of direction instead was to offer the public a 3D film, which has crushed many films released in recent years, especially due to the fact that the public did not at all appreciate having to pay a higher price for an almost nonexistent effect. This time, however, the mission is accomplished, and, even if we are certainly not faced with the effects of Avatar, also because the film did not require them at all, the viewer will be able to enjoy images that are nothing short of engaging and not only in the moments of action. An excellent restyling therefore that of Webb, who gives back to the world the most normal of superheroes, with his "great responsibilities" and that incredible ability to make us identify with him.
