The cartoons of God Sigma (original title Uchu Taitei Goddo Shiguma) were broadcast in Italy for the first time in 1981, in the various local television stations. The series conceived by Hachide Saburo was produced in 1980 by Toei Animation, for a total of 50 episodes (lasting 25 minutes each), but in the Italian version the last two episodes were never broadcast.

In 2050 the earth reached a level of advanced technology, capable of exploiting an energy source that also compensates for the problem of overpopulation. Some colonies have settled on the various planets of the solar system, among these Joa the satellite of Jupiter, where the population lives inside transparent domes and is mainly engaged in the extraction and processing of the Ionian. But the city of Trinity City suffers a surprise attack by aliens from the planet Helda. The invaders aim to take possession of the energy generator installed in the basement of the Trinity City institute, led by Dr. Kazami. That energy is so powerful that invaders could reign over the entire universe if they could get hold of it.

In order to defend the planet, the center of Trinity City has made three robots: Thunder built to fight in the sky, Neptune for the fight in the sea and Earthquake to tunnel underground and face enemies on earth.

Toshiya, a young pilot from Joa, wants to be present at the inauguration ceremony of the three giant robots and is thrilled to see them. But one of them starts to move and threaten the crowd with his huge feet. Driving the vehicle was Minako, but she is unable to pilot it and cries out for help. Minako is the daughter of the rich Mr. Martino, who financed the construction of the robots; she is a nice girl, but a little bit crazy and for this reason she always gets into trouble. Toshiya tries to go to his aid, but before him comes the chief engineer Julian Noguchi who with a rope drops on the robot's head and takes over the commands. Once on the ground Julian slaps Minako, because with his unconsciousness he could endanger the population. At one point the city of Trinity City is attacked by Helda's space planes. The only one able to pilot the robots is the engineer Noguchi, who puts himself at the helm of Neptune. But the young Toshiya, to escape the attack of the missiles, enters the Thunder robot and starts driving, despite the severe reprimand by Julian.

Toshiya in his planet was an experienced pilot, therefore he immediately demonstrates his skill in shooting down most of the alien planes, exploiting all the potential of Thunder with the laser scratch that comes out of the fingers and the flying blades that are fired from the abdomen. Julian Noguchi, too, is no less at the helm of Neptune and with the explosive net and the tridents fired from a harpoon, he gets rid of most of the enemy air fleets. The two robots manage to triumph and put the invaders of Trinity City to flight, even if the institute financed by Mr. Martino has been destroyed. General Terral, supreme commander of Helda orders Commander Litz to suspend the attacks and to aim the planes at the planet Joa. Within a short time, the aliens destroy the terrestrial colony of Joa and the few survivors manage to escape to earth. Among these is Kiraken, a strong and robust young man who has seen the death of his family, by the work of Helda's missiles. For this, moved by rancor, he swore revenge.

Meanwhile, the robots Thunder and Neptune set to work for the reconstruction of Trinity City and Toshiya too is moved by hatred towards aliens, for the destruction of his native planet. Thanks to his robot he helps Joa's refugee space plane to land on the Trinity City runway and reunites with his old friend Kiraken. Doctor Kazami invites the three young Toshiyo, Kiraken and Noguchi to go to the underground control center and assigns Kiraken the task of guiding the Earthquake robot. Meanwhile, the invaders of the planet Helda resume their attack with the metallic beast Glatken, a kind of three-headed space dragon. The formation is now complete and can launch a coordinated attack on the monster. The cosmosaur immediately proved to be very powerful, resisting the attacks of the Thunder robot, as well as the harpoon of Neptune. Now it's up to Kiraken to intervene, but he is still inexperienced to pilot the Earthquake robot. Suddenly, Minako bursts into the scene of the fight, with an old airplane equipped with a machine gun, with which she hopes to defeat the monster. But he forgets to fill the tank with petrol, so he falls into the sea, saving himself with the parachute.

Meanwhile, the spaceship led by Commander Litz decides to attack the underground control center, in order to take possession of Trinity's energy, so Dr. Kazami brings the base to the surface, in order to counterattack it with defense missiles. Unfortunately she is hit and at that sight, Kiraken takes out all his anger towards the aliens and despite not being an experienced pilot, he unleashes a "kamikaze" attack on the Glatken, hitting it repeatedly to avenge his family. Toshiyo and Noguchi with their robots stand between Commander Litz's spaceship and the control base and force it to flee. Meanwhile Kiraken, thanks to the impetus of his attacks, manages to put the three-headed monster to flight, causing it to end up in the sea. Once back at the base, despite having shown all his courage, Kiraken is reprimanded by the engineer Noguchi, because he was unable to pilot the robot and with his "kamikaze" attack, he risked damaging it. Toshiyo then takes it upon himself to train Kiraken, to make him an experienced pilot. Meanwhile, the metal beast Glatken, heads underwater to Trinity City and tries to destroy the foundations. Minako and her father are also forced to find an emergency shelter. Noguchi decides to face him with the robot Neptune, specific for submarine combat and will try to hit him with a special bullet, able to identify the weak point of the monster. The team of three robots exits the base and Earthquake digs underground tunnels, to escape into the seabed. Neptune launches an attack on the monster with the detonating spheres, which emerge from the abdomen. It is now Toshiyo's turn with his Thunder robot, with which he shoots the digital rays. The monster resurfaces and Neptune hits it with the special bullet, which locates the weak point in the Glatken's central head. The three robots concentrate all their attacks on the monster's weak point, with a coordinated action and thus defeat it definitively.

The monster's attack caused severe problems at Trinity City's control center and compromised the machine that powers Trinity's energy. Now it is therefore necessary to recover some Ionian, which unfortunately is only found on the planet Joa, occupied by Helda's troops. Julian Noguchi, proposes to Dr. Kazumi to exploit Trinity's last energy, to make God Sigma move, which will be formed by the union of the three robots: Thunder in the center, with Neptune and Earthquake on the sides. This will serve to enhance the attacks of the robots, which however will have to free Joa's planet at the first attempt, to supply the ionium, which can feed Trinity's energy.
