The whale Giuseppina / Goodbye Giuseppina

The cartoon La balena Giuseppina (original title Kojira no Josephina) is based on the stories of the children's writer Josè Maria Sanchez Silvia and was produced by the Japanese studios of Ashi Productions, in 1979. In Italy it was broadcast for the first time in 1981, in the various local broadcasters. The series consists of 23 episodes each lasting 24 minutes and are aimed primarily at an audience of preschool children.

The protagonist is little Choppy, who, being very shy and introverted, often takes refuge in the world of fantasy. The vehicle that transports him to this enchanted world is the magical whale Giuseppina, able to shrink to the point of being inside a glass. The whale Giuseppina, also able to fly and swim, will transport Choppy on a thousand adventures, from which he will always learn some new teaching that will help him overcome his shyness and fears. Most of the problems that Choppy will have to face will be those common to many children such as the first day of school, the first communion, the death of the grandmother, the departure for a long journey, but thanks to the teachings of the whale Giuseppina Choppy will be able to understand better the world around him. At the end of the series Choppy, who has now become a mature child, greets the whale Giuseppina so that she can fly to help other children full of fear. Of note is the initials La balena Giuseppina ", sung by Gian Paolo Dal Dello.
