Aoashi Manga has earned 5 million copies since the anime's debut

Shogakukan reported Tuesday that with the release of its compiled 29th volume, Yūgo Kobayashi's Aoashi manga now has 15 million copies in circulation. This number represents an increase of 5 million since the television anime's debut in April.

Kobayashi launched the manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine in January 2015. The manga is based on an original concept by Naohiko Ueno.

The manga centers on third-year middle school student Ashito Aoi, who lives in Ehime prefecture. Ashito has a strong talent in football but tries to hide it. Due to his very simple personality, he causes a disaster that serves as a huge setback. Then, Tatsuya Fukuya, a veteran of the strong J-Club Tokyo City Esperion team and coach of the club's youth team, appears in front of Ashito. Tatsuya sees through Ashito and sees his talent, and invites him to try for the Tokyo youth team.

The manga won Best General Manga at the 65th Shogakukan Manga Awards.

The anime premiered on the NHK Educational channel on April 9 and airs Saturdays at 18:25 pm Crunchyroll streams the anime as it airs. The second course of the anime debuted with the 13th episode on July 2.
