Snow White, also known as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (German title: Schneewittchen / French title: Blanche-neige), is a European folk tale. The version currently known is that written by the brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm, in a first edition in 1812, published in the collection Kinder- und Hausmärchen (Tales of children and the hearth), evidently inspired by many aspects of popular folklore, of which the two brothers were profound scholars. The town of Lohr in Lower Franconia claims that Schneewittchen originated locally.
Plot :
The story of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" generally referred to is the one told in the seventh edition of the Brothers Grimm's fairy tales of 1857. The story goes that one day a queen, while she is busy sewing near a window, pricks herself a finger and, looking at the blood on the snowy ground, expresses the desire to have a daughter with dark hair like ebony, skin white as snow and lips as red as blood; after some time the queen has a little girl, to whom she gives the name Snow White. In giving birth to her, the queen kisses her on the mouth, but, struck by a serious illness, she dies prematurely. The king, to ensure a mother figure for his daughter, decides to remarry.
