The Tangent Animation Studio of the movie "Maya and the Three Warriors" closes

Toronto and Winnipeg-based Tangent Animation, which was working on various feature film projects for Netflix, unexpectedly shut down business with more than 400 employees laid off between the studio's two locations, reports Cartoon brew. The seven-year studio, based in Blender, is behind the production of the Spanish-Canadian animated film Ozzy - Courageous Puppy (2016) and Sino-Canadian sci-fi adventure Next Gen, which caused a stir in 2018 when it sparked a bidding war in Cannes and was bought by Netflix for $ 30 million.

CB sources claim that Tangent had completed his work on his next big project, Netflix Original Maya and the three warriors (Maya and the Three) - A nine-part family adventure fantasy set in ancient Mesoamerica, due out this fall. Series creator, director and executive producer Jorge R. Gutierrez responded to the news on Twitter: “This is heartbreaking. I wholeheartedly loved working with all of Tangent's brilliant and incredibly talented artists, craftsmen and producers. What they achieved with Maya and the Three it's EPIC. I am jealous of future directors who will be lucky enough to work with them ”.

Tangent was also chosen by Netflix to deliver the action comedy inspired by the Chinese legend The Monkey King (2023) by director Anthony Stacchi (The Boxtrolls), executive producer Stephen Chow (Siren) and producer Peilin Chou (over the moon), and the musical adaptation of Paul McCartney's children's book High in the clouds (Netflix / Gaumont). Netflix was reportedly dissatisfied with the work done on these projects.
