Disney + restarts the Darkwing Duck animated series and the Lilo & Stitch movie

Disney Television Animation is in development for a reboot of the '90s cartoon Darkwing Duck which will air on Disney + and will be produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Aired in 1991 on the Disney Channel, the animated series full of comedy, action and adventure with a slight superhero touch was created by Disney animator Tad Stones (director of Aladdin 2: Jafar Returns, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins, Atlantis: Milo's Return). The series follows the adventures of the noir and selfish superhero Drake Mallard - voiced by Jim Cummings; his helper himbo Launchpad McQuack (originally on Duck Tales character voiced by Terry McGovern) and adopted daughter Gosalyn (Christine Cavanaugh). The show was packed with quotes and parodies of Marvel and DC Golden Age superheroes, pulp fiction and super spies.

Darkwing Duck ran for three seasons (91 episodes), garnering several Daytime Emmy nominations and an Annie Award for Voice Acting for Cummings.

The character had a recurring role in the new edition of Duck Tales (voiced by Chris Diamantopoulos), who recently appeared in a two-part hour-long third season special "Let's Get Dangerous" last month. Gosalyn also appears, voiced by  Stephanie Beatriz.

The other notices on the Disney front concern the director Jon M Chu (Crazy and rich Asians, imminent In the Heights), in talks to direct the hybrid / live-action adaptation of Lilo and Stitch,. The reimagining was announced as a Disney + original movie earlier this year.

The film is produced by Rideback's Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich; product vice president of production, Ryan Halprin, serves as executive producer. The current draft script, which will reportedly receive a new polish from a TBD writer, was written by Mike Van Waes.

The family adventure centers on a troubled human girl named Lilo and a dog-like alien named Stitch, who crashes near her home in Hawai'i. Despite his cuddly appearance, Stitch was designed as a terrifying living weapon and is now on the run as one of the most wanted in the galaxy. But with love, faith and the power of ohana - the Hawaiian concept of "family" - Lilo and Stitch form a powerful and transformative bond.

The original 2002 film, written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, grossed $ 273,1 million worldwide and spawned video sequels, an animated series, and other spin-offs and extensions for Stitch in fans. Worldwide.
