History

Edens Zero takes place in a fictional space universe inhabited by humans, aliens and sentient robots. The universe is divided into smaller "cosmoses", with the Sakura Cosmos serving as the initial setting for the series. Most of the planets and places have futuristic elements, some of which are combined with classic fantasy. The universe is also home to various cosmic entities, such as cybernetic dragons swarming in a sector bordering the Sakura Cosmos called Dragonfall, and a monster called Chronophage that devours the planets and permanently rewinds their time, creating alternate stories without causing temporal paradoxes.

All the technology in the series runs on a magical energy source called Ether, which forms the basis of the "space fantasy" aspect of the story; afterword one recurring device is the B-Cube, a video recorder that allows content creators, called "B-Cubers", to access a video sharing website of the same name based on YouTube. Several characters directly harness Ether in their bodies with Ether Gear, a power from the dark ages of the universe that grants its users superhuman abilities, which are further enhanced by a transformative "Overdrive" that has been achieved by pushing their Aether beyond its point. critical.

Shiki Granbell is a human user of Ether Gear who lives among the robots on planet Granbell, a deserted world of the theme park in the Sakura Cosmos. One day, the park is visited by two space-traveling B-Cubers - Rebecca Bluegarden and her robotic cat companion Happy - who Shiki befriends while they are recording videos for their online account, Aoneko Channel. After the park's robots forced them to leave the planet to save Shiki from being stranded before their batteries die, the three set out to explore the universe in search of Mother, the legendary goddess of the cosmos. In the process, Shiki acquires the interstellar warship Edens Zero as an inheritance from her grandfather, the mechanical Demon King Ziggy, who commanded the ship on a previous voyage to Mother.
