A powerful production team will develop the graphic novel for the big screen: Brown will produce for Gamechanger; Union is producing alongside Kian Gass, who will oversee from I'll Have Another Productions; and Henson and Christine Conley are producing for TPH Entertainment.

Gamechanger secured the rights to the fantasy graphic novel earlier this year. The comic tells the adventures of a young African American girl named Melanie who, following in the footsteps of her deceased mother, enrolls in a historically African-American coven and at the university of magic. He soon discovers that his school enrollment may not be entirely his choice, but rather the calculated actions of a higher authority. Between her studies, she discovers her familiar connection with the school's mysterious past, as well as her pivotal role in her future.

“Taraji and I have been looking for a project to work together for a few years and I'm thrilled to be collaborating with her, TPH Productions and Gamechanger Films on this project. I can't wait to bring this graphic novel to the big screen, ”Union said.

Henson noted, “I created TPH Entertainment as a way to help bring forward stories that better represent what our society looks like and to help share voices that may not have been given the opportunity to be heard. Joining incredible, like-minded women like Effie and Gabrielle in this exciting adaptation is a thrill for me and I can't wait to start this journey with them! "

Gamechanger Films' recently announced projects include Elegance Bratton's The inspection, with Jeremy Pope and Gabrielle Union, of which Brown is a producer and co-financier on behalf of Gamechanger; A24 will co-finance and manage the worldwide distribution of the film. The company also recently consulted on Amazon Studios' inclusion policy and the playbook initiative for its content and productions, a testament to its leadership in elevating projects by and on disadvantaged communities including women, people of color, LGBTQ +. and people with disabilities on all platforms.

“I couldn't have imagined a better equipped or more inspiring dream team than Gabrielle and Taraji's female producing partners on a project about such powerful black women. witchcraftThe portrayal of Black Girl Magic and the sisterhood offers such a fresh and unexpected perspective, and we can't wait to bring Mikhail and George's beautiful graphic novel to life, ”Brown said.

Gabrielle Union is represented by CAA, Range Media Partners, Patti Felker and The Lede Company. Taraji P. Henson is represented by M88, Ziffren Law and The Lede Company.
