The Jungle Book Stories for Children | Bedtime Stories | Italian cartoons.
The Jungle Book is a collection of short stories by Nobel Prize-winning writer Rudyard Kipling; published while he lived in Vermont in various newspapers and magazines between 1893 and 1894. The original publications contain illustrations, some made by the author's father himself, John Lockwood Kipling.
Kipling, born in India, lived his earliest childhood in Bombay, only to return there when he was just twenty and work there as a journalist for the following six years: the best known of these stories remain in fact the stories that narrate the adventures of the "man's cub" named Mowgli, abandoned in the Indian jungle and adopted by a pack of wolves.
Among other tales, the best known are probably Rikki-tikki-tavi (the story of a heroic mongoose) and Toomai of the elephants (the story of a young elephant handler). The second book of the jungle followed in 1895, includes, among others, five further stories that see little Mowgli as protagonist.
