Little Nicolas – What are we waiting for to be happy? the animated film of 2022

The award-winning French animated film Little Nicolas – What are we waiting for to be happy? (original title: Le Petit Nicolas – Qu'est-ce qu'on attend pour etre heureux?) is  based on the beloved children's comics and books pioneered by Jean-Jacques Sempé and René Goscinny in the 50s

Synopsis: Somewhere between Montmartre and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Jean-Jacques Sempé and René Goscinny bend over a large blank sheet of paper and bring to life a mischievous and affectionate boy, Little Nicholas. From school games and brawls to summer camp pranks and camaraderie, Nicholas enjoys a happy and enriching childhood. As the adventures of Nicholas and his friends unfold, the boy makes his way into the laboratory of his creators and questions them light-heartedly. Sempé and Goscinny will tell the story of their friendship, career and reveal a childhood full of hopes and dreams.

Little Nicolas – What are we waiting for to be happy? received the prestigious Best Feature Cristal in Annecy this year and also won major awards at the Bucheon International Animation Film Festival (International Feature) and the Cambridge Film Festival (Audience Award for Best Fiction Feature). The film was also nominated for a European Film Award for Animated Feature.

The film is directed by Amandine Bredon and Benjamin Massoubre, written by Michael Fessler, Anne Goscinny (daughter of René Goscinny) and Massoubre. The French voice cast is led by César Award-winning actor Alain Chabat ( Didier, The taste of others and local voice acting for Shrek in the DreamWorks Animation series) as Goscinny and César nominee Laurent Lafitte ( Elle, Tell No One, The Little Prince ).

Produced by ON Classica, Atom Soumache, Cedrio Pilot, Bidibul Productions, Lilian Eche and Christel Henon.
