The CGI and live-action animated series for adults "Beyond Nature"

Gutsy Animations, the award-winning studio behind the Emmy Award nominee of series Moominvalley, is developing her first adult drama series, Beyond Nature (Beyond nature), and led UK production company Lime Pictures (Hollyoaks) on board to co-produce. Currently in development, the psychological drama series consisting of 6 episodes of 50 minutes each, which will merge live-action animation with VFX and CG.

Gutsy Animations enlisted writers Jessica Ruston, Kevin Rundle and Phoebe Éclair-Powell for this project. The studio also selected Gary Carter as a consultant, with a mandate focused on sales and development, specifically to lead the studio's transition to adult drama. Carter previously held creative and senior leadership positions at Endemol, Fremantle, Shine and Endemol Shine.

Based on the novel by Katariina Souri Bottom Touch, Beyond Nature (Beyond nature) was created by Marika Makaroff, Chief Creative Officer and founder of Gutsy Animations, and Paavo Westerberg. The series will be shot between England and Lapland.

The groundbreaking and powerful psychological drama will follow Stella, a young Finno-British artist, as she searches for her true self and her family's past. Set against the ancient magical traditions and wilderness of the far north, and the cityscapes of Britain, the drama explores the alienation of humans from the natural world we are all a part of.

When Stella leaves the UK and returns to her family roots in Finland to sell her childhood home, the fabric of her inner life begins to shift and change. Experience visions that seem related to Lapland's vast, ancient natural landscape and its mythological past, and that invade its art. The predictions, or perhaps the warnings, push Stella to unravel a dark mystery in which to survive, she must confront and connect with her true nature.

"Beyond Nature (Beyond nature) it's a project like no other: Stella's mix of the real world and her haunting visions, combined with the contrasting settings of an English industrial city and a remote Lapland village, make this series truly distinctive, ”said Makaroff. “It's a perfect project to extend our reach to non-children's drama and we're very happy to partner with Lime Pictures and such a talented team of writers to bring it to life. Addressing issues of sisterhood; family secrets; hidden memories; mental instability; and nature, both human and environmental, Beyond Nature promises to be a challenging and compelling watch ”.

Lime Pictures CEOs Kate Little and Claire Poyser said, "We are delighted to partner with Gutsy Animations to bring such a compelling, evocative and visually stunning series to the screen."

Gutsy Animations, founded in 2016 by award-winning creator Makaroff, is a Finnish production house that creates high-quality content for the international market. The company's flagship production, award-winning Moomin Valley, has a record 16 million hits on YLE's streaming platform in Finland. The third season of Moomin Valley recently received the Albert certification, a sustainability label that demonstrates how Gutsy has managed and reduced its environmental impact during production.
