Rosie's rules, the children's animated series will debut in 2022

PBS KIDS announced today Rosie's rules (Rosie's Rules), a new 2D animated comedy series from 9 Story Media Group and its award-winning studio, Brown Bag films, for preschoolers (ages 3-6). The social studies show is expected to debut nationwide on PBS KIDS in Fall 2022.

Rosie's rules (Rosie's Rules) stars Rosie Fuentes, 5, a Mexican-American girl who has just begun to learn about the fascinating, bewildering, thrilling world beyond her family walls. The show aims to teach children concrete social studies lessons about how a community works, helping them develop awareness of themselves as individuals and as part of a larger society.

“Preschool is that amazing stage where kids start noticing how a community works and, of course, have a lot of questions,” said Sara DeWitt, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Children's Media and Education, PBS. "Rosie is right there with them, figuring things out one 'rule' at a time through humor and play."

Like many children across the country, Rosie is part of a mixed and multicultural family. Rosie is Mexican-American; his dad is from Mexico City and his mother from rural Wisconsin. He has a little brother, Iggy, and an older sister, Crystal, who is mom's daughter from her first marriage. The Fuentes family lives together in the Texas suburbs with their cat (and Rosie's accomplice), Gatita.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, Rosie's multicultural identity is an important part of who she is and Mexican, Southwestern and Midwestern art, traditions, food and music feature prominently in the series. Music is part of each episode, as Rosie sings a song to begin each story and ends with a celebratory tune that summarizes what she has learned.

Rosie's rules (Rosie's Rules) presents a comprehensive picture of social studies encompassing civics and government, geography, economics and history through engaging, character-based storytelling to help children achieve social studies skills that are important to preschoolers.

Each story builds on a preschooler's budding understanding of a concept (how the mail, transportation, family relationships works) and extends the learning from there. As Rosie discovers things, the answers, along with other cunning discoveries, become Rosie's Rules. These "rules" range from silly ("Don't try to send your cat to Mexico."), To sweet ("There's nothing better than making your Abuela happy.") To practical ("Sometimes, flopping helps you bring out your feelings "). They will also tap into what Rosie learned in the episode, connecting the takeaway curriculum and the heart of each story.

“We are so excited that the kids can meet Rosie,” said Angela Santomero, Chief Creative Officer of 9 Story Media Group. “Like many preschoolers, Rosie is just getting to know the world around her. Our hope is that the children see each other in the Fuentes family and fall in love with Rosie's curiosity, determination, creative thinking and humor! "

Rosie's rules (Rosie's Rules) was created by Emmy Award-winning writer and children's book author Jennifer Hamburg, a veteran of the children's television industry whose credits include Daniel Tiger's neighborhood, Super Why !, Pinkalicious and Peterrific, Cyberchase e Doc Mcstuffins. Executive producing with Hamburg is TV veteran Mariana Diaz-Wionczek, PhD, who brings extensive children's television experience (Dora the explorer, go Diego go !, Santiago of the seas) and cultural, educational and language skills, along with her own life experience raised in Mexico City. Maria Escobedo (Grey's Anatomy, Elena of Avalor, Nina's world) is on board as a story editor.

The games will launch in tandem with the series on pbskids.org and the free PBS KIDS Games app. To extend learning at home, resources for parents, including tips and hands-on activities, will be available on PBS KIDS for Parents. For educators, PBS LearningMedia will offer class-ready materials, including video excerpts, games, teaching tips, and printable activities.
