Record of box office for the debut of One Piece Film Red

One Piece Movie: Red, the fifteenth film in the franchise of one piece, amazed everyone with an incredible Japanese theatrical debut. The film got the first position in the standings with 2,254 billion yen (about 16 million euros) obtained in the first two days, selling 1,58 million tickets. This is the second most profitable debut in the history of Japanese cinema, positioning itself after Demon Slayer the Movie: the Mugen train.

The film got thus also the most profitable debut in the history of Toei and its own franchise, 280 percent outperforming the previous film one piece stampede, released in August 2019. It also earns 164 percent more than its debut One Piece Film Z, the highest grossing film in One Piece history.

One Piece Movie: Red thus becomes the third film in history of Japanese cinema ad exceeding XNUMX billion yen on its debut weekend and it is also the second film to have grossed one billion yen in just two consecutive days, being surpassed only by Demon Slayer.

One Piece Movie: Red failed to get past the 3,3 billion yen (24 million euros) debut Demon Slayer the Movie: the Mugen train, but it is positioned in second position, above a jujutsu kaisen 0 and its 1,6 billion yen (12 million euros). Obviously, only the first two days of screening are being considered, given that one piece debuted on Saturday and not Friday, experiencing a short weekend unlike the other two films.

Critics' judgments, on the other hand, are quite conflicting, in fact the film ranks third in the rating of filmmarks with a score of 3,8 / 5,0 based on 5.364 reviews. The score is significantly lower than that of Gundam: G no Reconguista - V Shisen wo Koete, the fifth compilation film of the mecha series of the same name, which obtained a rating of 4,14 / 5,0. Paradoxically, the latter failed to get a position in the box office rankings.

Along with regular screenings, the film immediately debuted in twenty-seven IMAX theaters and received MX4D, 4DX and Dolby Atmos screenings.
