Sun College (The Kabocha Wine) - The 1982 anime and manga series

Sun Collage Also known as The Kabocha Wine (The か ぼ ち ゃ ワ イ ン, The Kabocha Wain, trans. The Pumpkin Wine) is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Mitsuru Miura. It was serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1981 to 1984. The Kabocha Wine received the 1983 Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category.

The sequel to the manga, The Kabocha Wine - Sequel (The か ぼ ち ゃ ワ イ ン sequel, literally “The Pumpkin Wine - Sequel”) is a one-shot manga released by Seirindo on October 15, 2006.

The third series of the manga, The Kabocha Wine - Another (The ♥ か ぼ ち ゃ ワ イ ン Another, literally “The Pumpkin Wine - Another”) is published by Akita Shoten.

In 1982 it was adapted into a 95-episode anime series by Toei Animation.

The sequel to the anime was in the form of an animated film, called The Kabocha Wine: Nita no Aijou Monogatari (Ｔｈｅ か ぼ ち ゃ ワ イ ン ニ タ の 愛情 物語, The Pumpkin Wine: Nita's Love Story), which was released on July 14, 1984. by Toei Animation.

On October 26, 2007, wint released a DVD for the live-action film adaptation of the third manga series, called The Kabocha Wine - Another (The か ぼ ち ゃ ワ イ ン Another, literally “The Pumpkin Wine - Another”). Directed by Hitoshi Ishikawa, the film starred Yoko Kumada.

Characters

Shunsuke Aoba

Shunsuke is the main character of the series and Natsumi's love interest. A very short high school student. Generally gruff, proud and stubborn, Shunsuke is nonetheless a good-hearted, strong and brave guy. He is afraid of dogs, loves to eat and does not mind fighting.

Natsumi Asaoka

Natsumi is the female lead of the series and Shunsuke's girlfriend. She is taller and more prosperous than the Japanese average, and also sweet, intelligent, judicious, cheerful, kind and naive.

Sanyo Aoba, a short and proud Japanese boy, is tired of always being surrounded by women; so he moves to Sun College, a school he believes is male. Here he meets Lory Asaoka, a big and loving girl, and something is soon born between the two, despite their differences.

Sanyo decides to look after the Sun College dormitory for a few days. Obviously Lory does not intend to leave him alone. There are also rumors of a ghost appearing when school closes for the summer holidays.

7 Wishes for two

Soon it's Sanyo and Lory's birthday: August 18th. The boy has to find the money to buy the girl's gift; she works part-time in her mother's restaurant and invents a contest: whoever eats a huge cake within half an hour can win the cash prize, and Sanyo is one of those competitors.

Honma wants to learn how to become like her classmate and friend Sanyo. The latter however refuses to let him know the family business to avoid embarrassment. Lory intends to help the two friends.

Akaye is envious of Sanyo's popularity. Honma learns of the dorm chief's hostile intentions and warns his friend. Lory and her friends make up a lie to stop Akaye from beating Sanyo: vote him as the most popular boy in Sun College if he improves his temper.
