Toei Hack delays "Dragon Ball Super" sequel, multiple series

Japan's Toei Animation announced on Friday that the highly anticipated feature film Dragon Ball Super: Superhero will not be released on April 22 due to a hack on the company's network this month. Super Hero, which is a cartoon-toned CGI voice in the popular Dragon Ball franchise, was announced during the Goku Day celebrations in May 2021 and is expected to screen in North America this summer.

After the box office success Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the new film focuses on Gohan and Junior, as a huge collection of superheroes come together for an epic and action-packed battle. The creator of Dragon Ball Akira Toriyama wrote the story and dialogues and also provided new character designs, including some brand new faces.

Tetsuro Kodama he will direct the 21st Dragon Ball film, with Nobuhito Sue as art director, Chikashi Kubota as animation director, Jae Hoon Jung as CG director and music by composer Naoki Satō.

Toei announced on March 11 that an unauthorized third party had gained access to the company's network, which led to a partial arrest. As the studio continues to investigate, delays related to hacking will also affect the broadcast schedules of popular anime series on Japanese channels:

  • TV Asahi was unable to air Delicious Party Precure episode 6 on March 13 and will air Hugtto! Precure Futari wa Precure All Stars Memories in three parts on Sundays instead of new episodes.
  • Fuji TV will broadcast reruns and summary episodes of One Piece and Digimon Ghost Game from March 20.
  • TV Tokyo will not have new episodes of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai until April 2nd.

Dragon Ball debuted in 1984 as a Toriyama manga, published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump and quickly became a top-tier title during its 10 and a half years of publication. To date, the manga has sold over 260 million copies sold worldwide. The franchise has expanded to include TV animation, movies, games and merchandising. The 2018 film, Dragon Ball Super: Broly, set a world box office record of more than $ 120 million.
