Nvidia Shield Stops Nintendo Wii Game Downloads in China

In 2017, the rumors became real when it was confirmed that Nintendo would release some Wii ports at 1080p HD, 60 FPS on the Nvidia Shield in mainland China.

It started with the release of Super Mario Galaxy and was followed by other titles such as The return of Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, New Super Mario Bros. Punch-out !! e Mario Kart Wii.

Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners, the same source who originally shared this information has now revealed that there will no longer be the option to download these games. Although the games are "still accessible" when purchased, it is unclear how long the server authentication will continue to work.

This was all part of Nintendo's "Tegra deal" with Nvidia and was followed up in 2019 with the Japanese video game giant officially releasing the Tegra-based Switch in China with assistance from Tencent.

As of December last year, Nintendo's hybrid system had sold more than 1,3 million units in China, with the system selling nearly double the combined sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One over the same period. Daniel Ahmad also referred to the Switch's success in a follow-up to the original message:
