"Pompo il Cinefilo" the anime film to be released in April

GKIDS, producer and distributor of several Oscar-nominated animated films, announced today that it will bring the ode to fashion and humor to cinema Pompo the Cinephile in theaters nationwide this April. In addition to the feature film, audiences will see a special introduction by director Takayuki Hirao, exclusively for the screenings of Fathom Events.

Continuing their partnership with Fathom Events, fan preview events for Pompo the Cinephile they will go to cinemas nationwide on Wednesday 27 April (Japanese language) and Thursday 28 April (dubbed English language). The fan preview events will be followed by a limited theatrical release in markets selected nationwide by GKIDS starting April 29.

Acclaimed director Hirao (God Eater, Garden of Sinners), known for his dynamic and maximalist animation sequences, returns to the director's chair with this production from the brand new CLAP studio. Official selection and nominated for the Satoshi Kon Award for Best Animated Film at the 2021 Fantasia Film Festival, Pompo the Cinephile it was released in Japan on June 4, 2021 and quickly became an independent hit. Fueled by enthusiasm for the film's national release, a crowdfunding campaign to create a 35mm print of the film reached its fundraising goals of ¥ 10.000.000 (approximately $ 91.000 USD) in just 11 days.

Plot: Pompo is a talented and courageous producer in “Nyallywood”, the world capital of cinema. Though known for B-movies, one day Pompo tells her film-loving but apprehensive assistant Gene that she will direct her next screenplay: a delicate drama about an aged and tormented creative genius, starring legendary actor Brando Martin Braddock, and a young actress looking for her first vacation. But when the production heads into chaos, will Gene be able to rise to Pompo's challenge and succeed as a director for the first time?

Pompo the Cinephile it's a jaunty and exuberant ode to the power of films, to the joys and heartbreak of the creative process, as a new director and his team devote their lives to researching a "masterpiece".

Tickets will go on sale on March 25 at FathomEvents.com, PompoMovie.com and the ticket offices of the participating theaters. Ticket sales date may vary based on local cinemas, so check back often. (Theaters and participants are subject to change).
