Ado Ato Pictures produces 'Anouschka' special effects film

Ado Ato Pictures, an award-winning production company based in Los Angeles and Amsterdam, founded by creative director Tamara Shogaolu, has given the green light to a new mixed reality (XR) film experience entitled Anoushka. The film will be written by Elinor T. Vanderburg and Sandy Bosmans, produced by Jamari Perry and Riyad Alnwili and directed by Shogaolu. The film is currently in production in Amsterdam.

Anoushka is an animated fictional story inspired by the ethics of “Black Girl Magic” and all black girls around the world. In this interactive story, Amara, a black teenager from Amsterdam, embarks on a magical journey of self-discovery through time and space. Amara must go back and connect with generations of women who preceded her to save her grandmother and twin brother from a multi-generational family curse. He discovers his family's ancestors and magical powers along the way and reconnects to his roots as he learns even more about the present.

Designed as a mixed reality (XR) experience, audiences will actively participate in this journey. Through movement, touch and sound-based interactions, they will help our heroine tap into her powers, chanting spells and helping her collect magical items.

“To date, there has been no animated studio film directed by a black woman and there continue to be a glass ceiling and barriers to entry for women of color to technology, among many other fields. As a black Latina woman working at the intersection of film, animation, and technology, I want to believe that I can help shatter those ceilings by allowing black girls like me to see themselves and their magic come to life, as they rethink how technology can help us. to tell stories, ”Shogaolu said.

“Since I was a child, I have always wanted and dreamed of seeing and creating such a story Anoushka, a story of a smart young black girl who grew up in a world of magical black women like those of my world. I am even more thrilled by the opportunity to create a story written by talented black women, produced by black women and directed by a black woman. Hope you will join us in bringing Anoushka to life so that there is room for stories like ours “.
