“Blade Runner: Black Lotus” the animated series on Crunchyroll and Adult Swim

At Virtual Crunchyroll Expo, Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have announced more about the highly anticipated animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus by Alcon Entertainment, including a new key art. The animated series, premiered this year, follows a young woman who seeks revenge on those who hurt her, to understand her own identity and to uncover the mysteries of her past.

Los Angeles 2032. A young woman wakes up with no memories and deadly abilities. The only clues to his mystery are a locked data device and a tattoo of a black lotus. Putting the pieces together, he must hunt down the people responsible for his brutal and bloody past to find the truth about his lost identity.

During the panel, “The creation of Blade Runner: Black Lotus" Sara Vittorio, Crunchyroll development manager has talked to the directors Shinji Aramaki e Kenji Kamiyama about their process to create the series and how it fits into the legendary universe of Blade Runner. Aramaki and Kamiyama also talked extensively about the themes within this new series and how they worked hard to create a human story centered primarily on replicants.

When they unveiled the new key art, the directors discussed their process for character design and the stylistic balance they found between animation and photographic realism. They also shared that the series' international production and creative staff helped them capture an atmosphere closer to a Hollywood production and allowed them to create more diverse characters, just as you would see in Los Angeles now.

Finally, the directors presented the opening sequence of Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which contains the original song "Feel You Now" of the singer-songwriter Alessia Cara Grammy Award winner.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus, will premiere later this year on Crunchyroll and Adult Swim. The series is produced by Alcon Entertainment and the animation studio Sola Digital Arts, with Shinichiro Watanabe as the creative producer. Crunchyroll will stream the series in Japanese with subtitles to its global audience of over 120 million registered users and over 5 million subscribers, while Adult Swim will stream the English-language version on Toonami, the network's popular anime programming block.
