Asano launched the serialized manga adaptation of the original television anime of Trigger BNA: Brand New Animal in May 2020.

In the history of the anime, in the 21st century, the existence of animal-humans came to light after being hidden in the darkness of the story. Michiru lived life as a normal human being, until one day he suddenly transforms into a tanuki-human. He escapes and takes refuge in a special area of the city called "Anima City" which was established 10 years ago so that human-animals can live as themselves. There Michiru meets Shirou, a human wolf who hates humans. Through Shirou, Michiru begins to learn about animal-human concerns, lifestyle and joys. As Michiru and Shirou try to understand why Michiru has suddenly turned into an animal-human, they are unexpectedly involved in a major accident.

Yoh Yoshinari (Little Witch Academia) directed the Trigger anime and Kazuki Nakashima (Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill) wrote the scripts.

In 2021, anime and designer Yusuke Yoshigaki were nominated for the “Best Character Design” category at the 48th Annie Awards. The show was also listed as one of the nominees in the Media category of the 52nd Seiun Awards at the 2021 Japanese Sci-Fi Convention (Nihon SF Taikai).
