Christopher Butcher, co-founder of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, resigns - News

Toronto Comics Art Festival event art director Christopher Butcher announced Wednesday that he is stepping down to address health concerns and allow other staff members to move to other locations. He also acknowledged his and hers TCAF criticisms regarding the recognition and inclusion of BIPOC and LGBTQ + people, stating that "imbalances in the organization must be addressed". Butcher apologized for his role in "devaluing contributions from staff members and volunteers", adding that he is taking a step back to take the time to "get better."

Butcher is co-founder of TCAF alongside Peter Birkemoe. The comic festival had its inaugural event in 2003. This year's event scheduled for May 9-10 was canceled due to the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
