Dan Harmon, the author of Rick and Morty, will make a series about ancient Greece
Fox commissioned Dan Harmon, the author of the hit series Rick and Morty Emmy winner, a new animated series. The fully-owned Fox animated series will be produced by Fox animation studio Bento Box Entertainment (the same as the series Bob's Burgers), whose construction is scheduled for 2022.
The as-yet-untitled series will take viewers back in the mists of time to the mythical days of ancient Greece, where an imperfect family of humans, gods and monsters try to keep the world's first city alive without killing each other. Harmon's next animated odyssey is currently being cast.
"Let Dan Harmon turn the myths of early Greek civilization into an extraordinarily sharp parody of today's politics, celebrities and pop culture," Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn said on Deadline. "This project is an incredibly irreverent family comedy, told by one of the most creative storytellers in the city. We are proud to partner with Dan on this series, which strengthens our grip on the animation space and, as we continue to build Fox Entertainment, marks an important first step for us with our first fully owned scripted property.to ".
Fox's prime-time adult comic animated series development and production pipeline includes the recent announcement of Cockey starting from The Knick creators Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, mysterious supernatural adaptation Crag Banyon PI, Greater good, Demigod, Ocean village, an untitled project by Jermaine Fowler, The X-Files: Albuquerque, Temporary Humans e Housebroken.
