Suzu Urano is a young and cheerful girl who in 1944 moves to the small town of Kure, on the coast in Hiroshima prefecture, where she marries Shūsaku Hōjō, a young employee who works in the local naval base. In 1945, the bombings of the American armed forces hit Kure, with devastating effects on all citizens and their way of life. Suzu's life changes irrevocably, but with perseverance and courage she continues to carry on and live life to the fullest. This beautiful and tragic story demonstrates how even in the face of adversity and loss, people can come together and rebuild their lives.
