Josée, the tiger and the fishes (ジ ョ ゼ と 虎 と 魚 た ち, Joze to Tora in Sakanatachi ) is a 2020 Japanese animated film. It is a romantic and dramatic comedy, based on the short story of the same name by Seiko Tanabe. The film stars the voices of Taishi Nakagawa and Kaya Kiyohara. It is directed by Kotaro Tamura from a script by Sayaka Kuwamura, with original character design by Nao Emoto (who also created a manga comic), animation character design by Haruko Iizuka (who was also chief animation supervisor) and Bones animation production. 

Anime Factory has released the trailer for the animated film in collaboration with J-Pop Josée, the tiger and the fishes, scheduled for release in Italian cinemas on 27, 28 and 29 September 2021

The film was released in 9th place at the Japanese box office in its first week of release. 

History

The film is a coming-of-age story that tells the relationship between Josée, a talented disabled artist, and Tsuneo, a marine biology graduate, who meet by chance and find themselves attracted to each other. The anime was nominated for Best Animated Film at the Japan Academy Film Prize, was the opening film at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, and closed the Busan International Film Festival.

The trailer

Evan Call composed the music for the film. Eve performed the film insert song "Shinkai" and the ending theme "Ao no Waltz" 

The film was originally slated for release in mid-2020, but was postponed to December 25, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Funimation and GKIDS acquired the film for release in North American theaters in July 2021, with both the Japanese original and an English dub. Anime Limited acquired the film for release in the UK and Ireland, while Madman Entertainment acquired the film for Oceania and screened it in Australia from June 10 and in New Zealand from May 13, 2021. The film was screened in competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival to be held from 14 to 19 June 2021.
