Lum - Boy Meets Girl: A boy, a girl - Urusei Yatsura go - Kanketsuhen

Lum - Boy Meets Girl: A boy, a girl (original title: う る 星 や つ ら 5 完結篇 Urusei Yatsura go - Kanketsuhen, lett. “Urusei Yatsura 5: Final Chapter”) is a 1988 Japanese animated (anime) film directed by Satoshi Dezaki and made by the Kitty Film studio.

This is the fifth cinematic film inspired by the characters of Lum by the author Rumiko Takahashi.

The film is based on the last chapter of the manga comic series and for this reason it is also considered the final chapter of the anime series. The animated film was made two years after the television series ended.

In Italy it was released on home video in 1996 initially on VHS and later on DVD by Yamato Video. On television it was broadcast on Sky's Man-ga channel

History

Lum's grandfather wakes up after hibernating for decades. His memory is fully functional and therefore we remember that he had promised his niece in marriage to Rupa, the nephew of a merchant. When the moment of marriage between Rupa and Lum arrives, the beautiful alien takes advantage of it to make her beloved Ataru jealous. Lum makes him believe he is in agreement with the arranged marriage. Ataru, following a furious quarrel with her girlfriend, yells at him to hate her, and Lum runs away, moving to Rupa who in the meantime had fallen in love, reciprocated, with her violent Carla. The quarrels between the two engaged couples end up escalating, with disastrous effects on Earth. In order for normality to be restored, Lum demands that Ataru tell him he loves her, or possibly manage to grab her by the horns of her (as happened in the first episode of the series). If Ataru, who absolutely does not intend to reveal his feelings to the girl, fails in the enterprise, the memories of the earthlings relating to Lum and all of his alien friends will be erased.

Characters

Lum (ラ ム):

Also known as Lamu (due to the Japanese pronunciation of her name), she is a girl who has fallen irrevocably in love with the lustful and hapless thug Ataru Moroboshi. It can be argued that a normal girl could never fall in love with this loser, however, Lum is not a normal girl.

Lum is an alien princess, daughter of a powerful commander-in-chief of her planet's army and more specifically of an oni. In Japanese mythology, oni are monstrous beings that arise from the negative karma of human beings. Lum is an alien version of them (or maybe she is a product of Ataru's negative karma). She is able to fly and generate electric shocks. She has green hair and wears bikini bottoms and high boots plus a trench coat that turns heads in a conservative Japanese society. Like all oni, she has two horns and fangs, and has a terrible aversion to garlic.

Lum is a lively and uninhibited alien. He is full of sex appeal, glamor and feminine charm. She is an honest and kind girl who is not afraid to express her feelings about her. He firmly believes in the idea of always being with the man he loves (even if he is hardly with her). But she has another scary side. She possesses a very explosive temper and an extremely jealous nature, which results in massive electric shocks (or sometimes attacks with huge wooden hammers) for Ataru. Lum is also very stubborn. When he focuses on something, he doesn't let go. Although he possesses a readiness to get angry, he quickly returns to normal. In fact, she is almost always lively and carefree.

His way of speaking comes from an unusual dialect. She lamù she says "uchi" (う ち?) To refer to herself and she almost always ends her sentences with "~ daccha" (~ だ っ ち ゃ?) Or simply "~ ccha" (~ っ ち ゃ?). When used alone, "daccha" means "Yes". The way she talks is modeled on a very cute cheesy style used in Japan by girls who try to be pretty, almost disgustingly.

With his exotic spatial beauty and 'pop idol' attitude, he is very popular with kids. ALL the boys in her class would kill to go out with her, however she is very loyal and devoted to Ataru. She thinks of him as her husband and refers to him only as “Cariño” (“Honey” in the Andalusian dub of Channel 2. In the manga (published by Glénat), he is called “Cariñín”).

Ataru Moroboshi (諸 星 あ た る):

At first glance, he looks like a typical 17-year-old high school student. He looks normal, comes from a lower-middle-class family, and spends most of his time slowing down in class and watching girls. But he soon realizes that a superhuman phenomenon truly is once he sees it in action. Ataru Moroboshi is undoubtedly the most perverse idiot, womanizer, unfortunate, lazy and unfaithful in all history.

Ataru is perhaps the most unfortunate guy in the entire universe. Since he was born, Ataru has become famous in the Tomobiki neighborhood. He was born on a day that was simultaneously, a Friday April 13 (this month is the 4th of the year, which in Japanese is "Shi-gatsu" which can also mean "month of death" or "fourth month"), the date of a strong earthquake and a Butsumetsu (the day of Buddha's death, considered the most unfortunate day in the world according to the Buddhist calendar). Since he was a child he has the ability to attract pure misfortune upon himself; from evil spirits, oddities and recently aliens. Starting with Lum, the girl who would change him for the rest of his life.

Moroboshi vehemently denies being married to Lum. He constantly runs away from her and rejects her. The reasons are because the restrictions on marriage would put an end to his "girl hunt". But also because the unique girl attacks him with electric punishment every time he does something stupid. Despite her complaints and her poor treatment of her, Ataru truly loves her, but her problems with marital commitment prevent the relationship from progressing. In fact, once in a while implying that he loves Lum, he immediately goes on to say that he also loves Shinobu, Sakura, Benten, Oyuki, Ran, Asuka, Ryoko, Ryuunosuke, Kurama, among many others. He is ungrateful to Lum and does not appreciate her, however, when he is faced with the prospect of losing Lum; or when the only girl is in greater danger, Ataru's true feelings come out. In fact, as time goes by, he realizes that Lum is the one he truly loves, even if he is unable to prove it to anyone, not even himself, because he acts as if he has hated her for too long. time. His shipwreck and eventual internal prison is that, however much he denies and denies it, he truly loves Lum and would be able to give his life for her if necessary.

Shinobu Miyake (三 宅 し の ぶ):

Shinobu means bitter weariness. Shinobu could be described as an innocent schoolgirl, but she is not entirely innocent. She is very romantic and often full of melancholy. Shinobu is usually very sweet and kind, but she only pretends to be bitter and short-tempered until she is provoked or if they say something to her for no reason. Like Lum, Shinobu is very jealous and has a bad temper. Shinobu really has a tendency to overdo it with the smallest things and she goes into a fit of hysteria whenever things get too weird. Whenever Shinobu gets angry, she gets scared or aroused, she seems to gain infinite strength. She then she goes into a wild frenzy, more often than not throwing desks and other types of furniture. This power comes from her jealousy of her for Lum of her when she was dating Ataru, but she also kept it after she lost all romantic interest in him. This force is an example of how Lum's presence affects Tomobiki. Thanks to Lum, Shinobu is one of Urusei Yatsura's most physically powerful characters.

Shinobu is a very sweet girl, but she has the worst luck in the world with men.

In the beginning Shinobu was Ataru's girlfriend. Ataru and Shinobu have been together since they were children. She stayed by her side, despite her horrible behavior.

As the series begins, Shinobu finally begins to lose interest in Ataru. There are mainly three reasons for this. She got tired of Ataru constantly cheating on her, Lum she was constantly causing aggravation towards Shinobu, but mostly because Shuutaro Mendo showed up. Shinobu was immediately fascinated by this rich, affable and handsome boy. Throughout the series Shinobu pursues the love of Mendo, but with some success. It is obvious that Mendo has feelings for her for her, but Shinobu knows that he wants Lum more. He takes her away for a while, but Shinobu soon manages to forget Mendo and begins to see how Mendo is not too different from Ataru. Even after all this, Shinobu still loves Ataru and Mendo, but only as friends.

Shuutarô Mendô (面 堂 終 太郎):

It is Mr Shuutaro Mendo. Descendant of the richest family on the planet, he is descended from the cast of samurai. Shuutaro is the heir to the $ 4 trillion Mendo Conglomerate. His family owns much of Japan, as well as parts of many other countries. They are a militaristic government in their own right. They have their own secret police and even more spectacular is their highly advanced and powerful private army which could very well annihilate the Japanese army if necessary.

Mendo tries to live his life according to the bushido codes. He is well-mannered, elegant, talented, athletic, handsome, gentlemanly, disciplined, intelligent and wealthy. Simply put, it's everything girls go crazy for… especially the money side. Virtually all women who don't know him well find him irresistible and even Mendo does nothing to discourage them. He is an exceptionally active womanizer. He will flirt with any woman he sees. Mendo treats all women like goddesses, but equally he treats men like garbage.

Mendo came suddenly one day when a new student from Tomobiki High School parachuted from one of Mendo's large private bombings. Mendo, who has no tolerance for idiots or ugly people, immediately became the rival of our protagonist, Ataru Moroboshi. Mendo could easily have almost all the women he wants, but he just takes them. The only woman he really wants is Lum. Suffice it to say Lum is not interested as she is completely loyal to Ataru. This is the most important factor in contributing to Mendo's enmity towards Ataru. Even though he has power, honor and good looks, most of the time Ataru can still get the upper hand over Mendo.

Jariten (ジ ャ リ テ ン):

Jariten, known to all as "Ten", is Lum's cousin. Ten is a naughty alien kid who talks in an annoyingly smug way. Like all oni, Ten has powers of him. He can fly and breathe fire. But he is an inexperienced child, so his flight is awkward and slow, and his breath of fire isn't always effective.

Ten is a boy, but he certainly doesn't play his age. He has a certain level of adult intelligence which is quite surprising for someone who still wears diapers. One result of being precocious is that Ten only has eyes for older women. There was a time when he liked Sakura, as well as the woman who ran the flower shop, Kurama and a few others. However, Ten is still essentially a child and rather naive. He is usually cute and small around women. When he's with men, he's just her usual self. Loud, annoying and often aggressive.

Ten came to Earth to meet Lum's new husband, but were disappointed with what he found. From the moment they met, Ataru and Ten have been at odds. Ataru intimidates him, Ten burns his head. Ataru tricks Ten and teases him, and he teases Ataru. A true brotherly relationship.

Since Ataru is such an idiot, Ten doesn't think he deserves Lum. He then decides to live with them to keep an eye on Ataru. As for Ataru, he's jealous of a child's ability to use his sweetness to get close to girls, but he mostly thinks Ten is a big nuisance. But with all the constant bickering between them, the truth is they have a lot in common. Later in the series they learn to live together, even as the insults continue to fly. If you didn't know them well, from the way they behave towards each other, you might get the impression that they are brothers.

Sakuranbo (錯乱 坊):

His name is Sakuranbo, but he insists on being called Cherry. Cherry is a very hateful and disturbing Buddhist monk. An itinerant priest who has a habit of appearing out of nowhere when you least expect it, often scaring anyone unfortunate enough to deserve his attention.

Almost all of Urusei Yatsura's characters hate him and fear his presence. Cherry always makes judgments about people and predicts fate. You see bad omens in almost everything. Usually his terrible predictions come true, even if he himself has to lend a hand to fate. Of course, everyone hates his silly jokes.

But nobody hates Cherry as much as Ataru Moroboshi. For reasons known only to the annoying monk, Cherry constantly interferes in Ataru's life and feels sorry for his corrupt personality, his low desires and his bad luck. She took a personal interest in seeing him fall through.

When Cherry isn't traveling, she lives on an empty lot, residing in her makeshift tent. Cherry, a desperate freeloader, is always trying to turn a bad situation into an opportunity for a free meal. Eating and being an idiot seem to be her reasons for living.

Sakura (サ ク ラ):

Sakura is the beautiful nurse from Tomobiki High School who is also Cherry's granddaughter and a powerful Shinto priestess.

Mystical forces are strong in your family. His uncle Cherry is a good example of this. Sakura possesses many powers such as extrasensory perception, summoning skills and control over demons and spirits. Sakura and Cherry do a lot of demon cleansing and exorcism together. Just like her uncle, she sees bad omens everywhere and always imposes spiritual counsel on Ataru. Even though she has a lot in common with her uncle, she doesn't like Cherry as much as everyone else. Sure enough, she hits him harder than anyone else, but Cherry pretty much deserves it.

Most people can't believe she is related to that evil monk, since she is so beautiful. All the guys at Tomobiki High School have a great enthusiasm for this mature and intelligent woman. They have been known to mutilate themselves voluntarily, so they have an excuse to visit Sakura's infirmary.

Sakura has absolutely zero tolerance for teen lewd tendencies. She finds it outrageous and her reactions to these perversions are almost always in the form of violence. But no violence can keep kids away for long. It certainly has no effect on our dissolute resident, Ataru Moroboshi.

Among her many spiritual powers, she also has the rare power to eat mountains of food, without gaining weight at all (to the envy of the other women around her). Sakura isn't exactly a sweet tooth, but she has a huge appetite because she'd gobble up enough food to feed an army.

It has something of an ancient soul, long before its time. As young and beautiful as she is, she Sakura seems to have the mindset of an old maid. The way of talking about her is very old-fashioned. She is often irritable and bossy. She is completely out of touch with younger women today. It seems that even when she was a teenager, she Sakura behaved like an adult. It's hard to believe she was once a girl.
