AI artwork in the new One Piece volume 108 is prohibited

Released on March 4, 2024, the new One Piece volume 108 includes updated instructions for fans, prohibiting the submission of AI-generated artwork. The Usopp Gallery section, which usually features selected fan works, has been updated following the release of volume 108 in Japan on March 4, 2024. The new rules include a ban on setting works that imitate anyone other than Mr. Oda , infringe the copyrights of others or use artificial intelligence to generate the works.

An official One Piece animator responded brilliantly to a viral thread about AI-generated art on social media X (Twitter). The use of software such as DALL-E and Midjourney to create works of art has sparked controversy regarding copyright infringement. Despite his anti-AI stance, Eiichiro Oda has been involved in controversies regarding its use in the past.

One Piece volume 108 contains 12 chapters up to chapter 1100, with Luffy and his crew facing a major battle against Admiral Kizaru and the naval fleet. The volume also reveals interesting news about the reason for the attacks against Luffy, accompanied by an animated video parody by artist Onkun Suko. The story follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate companions in their search for the legendary “One Piece” treasure.
