Stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco reveals his role in the upcoming Super Mario Bros.

American stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco has revealed he has a role in Illumination's upcoming Super Mario film, and is speculated to signal the return of an older and relatively minor Nintendo character in the film.

As a guest of the August 5 edition of Bertcast, a podcast hosted by fellow comedian Bert Kreischer, Maniscalco was asked about his plans for the rest of the day and replied:

I'm in a movie, Super Mario Bros., an animated movie. So I'm playing, um, Spike, their boss. So I'll do it at 12.

You can watch for yourself the clip on the YouTube video of the show archived by Kreischer.

Spike? Who is Spike?  As well as @ Eponge2L on Twitter he was quick to point out, Foreman Spike starred in Wrecking Crew alongside Mario Bros., so it's likely Blacksmith is referring to this:

There's also a Super Mario Bros. enemy called Spike, although it would seem (to us at least) far more likely that the foreman will star in the film in a talking role than the green dude throwing spiky balls at the plumber.
