Teen Wolf, the 1986 animated series

Teen Wolf is an animated television series that aired from 1986 to 1987 produced by Southern Star / Hanna-Barbera Australia in association with Clubhouse Pictures in the first season and Atlantic / Kushner -Locke in the second season. The animated series is based on the 1985 live-action film Teen Wolf.

In Italy the series was broadcast in May 1993 on Italia 1

History

The series is about a teenager and his family who can turn into werewolves. the stories focus on the themes of coming of age and adaptation. While generally keeping the main ideas, this version made some changes to the original movie film.

Scott Howard and his family now live in the fictional town of Wolverton, a town that constantly attracts tourists due to its history of werewolf sightings. (In the film the town was called “Beacontown”.) Scott was an only child who lived with his father in the film, the cartoon gave him a little sister and grandparents.

Despite being aimed at a young audience, the cartoon series has made very heavy criticisms of disability as civil rights. Loosely invoking an asthma attack or an attack, the series focused on how Scott felt "weird" immediately before and during his werewolf transformation.

Although he never harmed anyone while he was a werewolf, Scott was aware of his difference from other teenagers and had to fix himself. He also expressed frustration that the residents of this city discriminated against "his he people of him". Boof's father, Mayor Marconi, is a semi-antagonist of the Howard family in the cartoon and doesn't know that his daughter is in love with a werewolf. But he never appears in the live-action film.

An athlete named Mick who now also attends Wolverton High consistently chooses Scott to be "the stranger". Mick went to another high school in the film. Pamela is a cheerleader in the cartoon while in the film she didn't have much school spirit.

Characters

Scott Howard (voiced by Townsend Coleman), the main protagonist; he constantly chases local cheerleader and popular girl Pam, while being thwarted by Pam's boyfriend, Mick McAllister, a bad jock. Scott spends much of his time worrying about social acceptance and the possibility of people finding out that he is a werewolf. Unlike the film, Scott is not part of a sports team but still wears a literary jacket.

Harold Howard (voiced by James Hampton, the only actor who reprized his role from the live-action film), Scott's widowed father; a laid-back hardware store owner, generally uninterested in his son's social problems. He rarely transforms.

Lupe Howard (voiced by Sherry Lynn), Scott's younger sister, is one of the new characters added to the animated series. She's not old enough to know if she's a werewolf or not, but she desperately wants to be. In one episode, she is able to transform due to a spell, but since the spell temporarily turns anyone into a werewolf, she doesn't yet know her true state of her.

Grandpa Howard (voiced by Stacy Keach Sr.), Scott's grandfather is an immigrant from Transylvania. He spends most of his time in his werewolf form, taking on a fully human aspect only when he has to. He is a constant source of embarrassment for Scott, because he is always around on all fours, chasing cats and getting into trouble with the neighbors. He is another new character added to the cartoon.

Grandma Howard (voiced by June Foray), Scott's grandmother; she is also from Transylvania and, like her grandfather, remains most of the time in werewolf form. She's not that embarrassing for Scott because she behaves better than Grandpa. She becomes Scott's ally in his attempts to keep his grandfather's behavior in check. She is sometimes portrayed as a stereotypical gypsy-like fortune teller and sometimes she has performed other spells, such as brewing potions, making her look somewhat like a witch. She is another new character added to the cartoon.

Rupert “Stiles” Stilinski (voiced by Don Most), Scott's best friend; in the secret of the werewolf, Stiles is supportive but often underestimated in Scott's quest to be "in" with the cool crowd. Like Lupe, he longs to be a werewolf and is upset that Scott doesn't appreciate the "gift".

chubs (voiced by Will Ryan) Another friend of Scott's; who is in the secret of the werewolf. Chubs is more reliable than Styles and says a lot less. Unlike the film version, he is not part of any sports team but still loves to eat.

Lisa "Boof" Marconi (voiced by Jeannie Elias), a friend of Scott, and is also involved in the secret of her family's werewolf along with Stiles. She is romantically interested in him, but he seems oblivious to this, chasing Pam instead.

Mayor Marconi (voiced by Frank Welker and Kenneth Mars) Boof's father and the mayor of Wolverton, unaware of the Howards, are not a "bad" person, but are occasionally tricked into claiming dangerous things that would harm his constituents. He was added to the cartoon and had not appeared in the film.

Pamela Wells (voiced by Ellen Gerstell), Wolverton High's most popular girl and serving as a cheerleader, is Scott's romantic interest. She is the girlfriend of Mick McAllister, who sometimes thwarts Scott and makes fun of him because he is a stranger. Pam doesn't know that Scott is a werewolf like her family before him, like everyone in Wolverton who doesn't know the Howard family secret.

Mick McAllister (voiced by Craig Sheffer), a villain athlete at Wolverton High, is Pamela Wells' boyfriend who pits Scott and mocks him for being a stranger to Wolverton. Mick, like Pam and everyone else in town, doesn't know that Scott and his family are werewolves.

Mrs. Seslick (voiced by June Foray), the Howard family's nosy neighbor who is always one step away from uncovering the family secret and revealing it to the community. She is the latest new character added just for the cartoon.
