The champions of wrestling -Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling - The animated series

The champions of wrestling (Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling in the American original) is an American animated series that originally aired on CBS on Saturday mornings from September 14, 1985 to October 18, 1986, with reruns running until June 27, 1987.

History

The champions of wrestling (Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling) was a cartoon series produced by DIC Animation City. It featured animated adventures of famous WWF stars of the time, including main character Hulk Hogan and his group of wrestlers fighting a group of rogue wrestlers led by "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. The show followed cartoon archetypes of good characters triumphing over evil in wacky situations, typical of children's cartoons in the 80s.

Rarely mentioned, wrestling was simply a device for determining the good guys from the bad guys. The wrestlers themselves have appeared in the live action segments of the show; however, due to their busy travel schedules, they did not provide the voices to their animated counterparts. These were instead performed by professional voice actors. A recurring live action segment was the “Land of a Thousand Dances” cover music video recorded by several WWF wrestlers for The Wrestling Album.

Due to the animation of the show and the longer production times that resulted, it often couldn't keep up with WWF events at the time. This has led some wrestlers to become a heel (or, in terms other than wrestling, a villain) in regular WWF programming, but to remain good guys in the cartoon and vice versa; examples include "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (who was a heel when the show debuted, but became a face in the fall of 1986, despite remaining a villain in the cartoon) and André the Giant (who was a face in the fall of 1985). 1987, but changed his mind in early 1985, despite remaining on the good side for the duration of the series). Additionally, Jimmy “Superfly” characters Snuka and Wendi Richter remained throughout the series, despite both leaving WWF in late XNUMX.

WWE currently owns the rights to the program.

In April 2015, WWE announced that the program would be added to the WWE Network, making its first appearance since the April 20 episode of WWE Raw. On July 24, 2015, Hulk Hogan was fired from WWE and all references to Hulk Hogan, including Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling, were removed from the WWE network.
