Assassin Anime Buddy Daddies chooses Toshiyuki Morikawa

“Buddy Daddies” represents an intriguing novelty in the anime landscape, mixing elements of action, comedy and family drama in a single engaging tale. The series, produced by Nitroplus and PA Works, stands out for its original premise that revolves around two assassins, Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa, who unexpectedly find themselves caring for a little girl named Miri Unasaka.

The news of Toshiyuki Morikawa joining the cast adds further charm to the series. Morikawa, a veteran voice actor with a wide range of iconic roles under his belt, lends his voice to Kyūtarō Kugi, the manager of the Yadorigi café frequented by the protagonists. Kugi is not just a simple cafe manager, but also acts as an intermediary for the assassins, organizing their assignments. This character promises to add a further layer of complexity to the narrative, acting as a link between the protagonists' daily lives and their secret missions.

The plot develops around an unexpected event that changes the lives of the protagonists: the meeting with Miri, a little girl looking for her father on Christmas day. This meeting brings Kazuki, Rei and Miri to live together, creating an unusual and touching family dynamic. The series explores themes such as family, love and identity through the interactions between the main characters and their attempt to balance everyday life with their dangerous professions.

The main cast is rounded out by Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Kazuki Kurusu, Kōki Uchiyama as Rei Suwa and Hina Kino as Miri Unasaka. The direction is entrusted to Yoshiyuki Asai, known for his work on successful series such as “Charlotte” and “The Day I Became a God”. The original story was created by Vio Shimokura of Nitroplus, with Yuuko Kakihara contributing the scripts.

The character designs are the work of Katsumi Enami, while the music is composed by Katsutoshi Kitagawa of Round Table, known for his collaborations on series such as “Aria the Animation” and “Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card”.

“Buddy Daddies” promises to be a memorable addition to the anime genre, offering a unique blend of action, emotion and humor. With a cast of fascinating characters and a plot that challenges traditional conventions, this series is bound to capture viewers' attention and leave a lasting impression. The series debuted on January 6 on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV and BS11, with a simultaneous premiere on ABEMA TV in Japan and streaming availability on Crunchyroll outside of Japan, promising to reach a wide international audience.
