Blue Water seeks animation partner for the documentary "Kohola"

Sundance director Greg Reitman ( Fuel, Rooted in Peace ) of Blue Water Entertainment is looking to partner with a cutting-edge animation company for its next hybrid animated documentary film, Whale .

Blue Water is heading to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival to find an animation company that shares its environmental values in telling the humpback whale saga, according to Reitman, who is producing and directing the project.

“We recently started production shooting in Drake Bay, Costa Rica to capture the birth of humpback whales. We have a rigorous two-year production schedule for filming and producing 20 minutes of animation, ”explains Reitman.

“Working with Jean Thoren as our executive producer will allow us to take a whole new holistic approach to animation,” adds the director. "With over 30 years of experience we hope to find the right animation partner to help carry this story forward."

“Khoola it's a very current and important film, ”says Jean Thoren. "We fully support Greg's vision for the future of our planet and the species we share this world with."

Plot: Over 10 trillion pieces of plastic currently litter the ocean. Whale examines our co-dependence on plastics and its disastrous effects on oceans and humans. The film explores our ability to collectively correct the course towards a sustainable, 100% biodegradable future and the survival of all inhabitants of the Earth.

Shot in stunning 4K, drawing on historical archives and expert insights,  Whale tells a parallel story over a hundred years. Whale compare the history of plastic with the history of the humpback whale and its other marine creatures. The film shows seas where marine life once could swim freely, but are now the deadly resting places of this ubiquitous poison: plastic.

The 90-minute hybrid documentary will feature special appearances by activist Greta Thunberg, Captain Paul Watson and Michael Broungart, chemist and co-founder of Cradle to Cradle.
