A character who has marked the history of animation: the mythical Bugs Bunny, the irreverent rabbit of the beloved looney tunes, is preparing to celebrate its first 80 years. His first appearance dates back to July 27 1940 in "Rabbit Hunt" (The Wild Hare) directed by Tex Avery, candidate for the Oscar Prize the following year as best animated short film. In this first film, Bugs meets the victim Thaddeus, the clumsy and naive hunter who will become the perfect nemesis of the smartest rabbit ever. And it is precisely in this short film that he pronounces his famous joke for the first time "What's going on, friend?" ("What's up, doc?" in the original version): a sentence that fully summarizes that mocking and mocking spirit that has always distinguished it.

The Hollywood star, for example, is not the only recognition it has achieved: after appearing in 1943 in "Super Rabbit" dressed in the uniform of the Marines, Bugs Bunny was named honorary member of the US Marine Corps; in 1997 it became the first cartoon to be printed on a american stamp; his personality has inspired legendary actors like Charlie Chaplin, Groucho Marx and Clarke Gable; he spoke with the typical Brooklyn accent and received three Oscar nominations, winning one in 1958 for "The Knight Bugs" (Knightly Knight Bugs), a story inspired by the myth of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table that sees him starring together with the red-whiskered gunslinger Yosemite Sam.
