Family tension reaches a whole new level The Stockholms - a new fun animated series for adults by Explosm (Cyanide and happiness, Freakpocalypse) and the Octopie animation studio (Paranormal action team, Netflix is coming soon Magic: The Gathering). The 2D cartoon is a surreal sitcom that follows a bank robber who spent months in a bank with his hostage "family", all thanks to a pushover negotiator. The Stockholms is now available, exclusively on the YouTube channel of Octopias.

In addition to sharing an exclusive clip of an upcoming musical episode, "The Sing-A-Long Sting", creator of the series Mike Salcedo (Writer / director, The Cyanide & Happiness Show, Cyanide and happiness) and Explosm co-founder Rob denbleyker he gave us a few moments to discuss their new wild and strangely related show. Read on under the clip!

Animag: How did you come up with the idea of the plot The Stockholms?

Mike Salcedo: It started as a humor strip for my webcomic, Bigfoot Justice. The original idea was a show in style Saturday Night Live , in which all the cast members and the audience are forced to laugh. After that, I just became interested in what would happen if a hostage situation never escalated or downgraded, but went on forever. What would the absolute best scenario look like? Most of my webcomic gags are weird scenarios or "what-if" premises "what if ...?", And this idea was all premise without a "4th panel punchline", so I held back until we didn't need a pitch for an original show.

How long has the series been in development / production?

Mike: The deal with Octopie ended in October 2019, pre-production began in January 2020, and the final episode ended in June 2020, so it's been a nine-month sprint to put this thing together, which is appropriate because it seems all child of the team.

How is the animation production process?

Mike: The animation is produced here at Explosm, specifically by Bill Jones and Matt Thurman, our animation director and animation supervisor respectively. Our entire team is made up of around 30 people, but the team is dedicated to Stockholm full-time was about 10. We used Adobe Animate for animations, backgrounds and character designs, and we used Toon Boom Harmony for animation. The change was done in Adobe Premiere. Our producer, Adam Nusrallah, used Smartsheets to chart the entire process.
