DC renews Nightwing's costume, and it's perfect

The current comic series of Nightwing of the writer Tom Taylor and designers Bruno Redondo e Adriano Lucas it was a breath of fresh air for fans of the character. Now things are about to get even better as DC Comics revealed the January 2022 covers of Nightwing # 88, featuring a new design for Redondo's Nightwing suit. Dick's new look blends elements from previous Nightwing suit designs for a look that's more of a retouch than a bottom-up reinvention.

Here's how DC describes it Nightwing #88:

In this issue, after the agonizing events in which he saved Haley from being drunk by villains, Nightwing discovers that there are far more hits on Dick Grayson than he realized, thanks to the fact that he made his fortune public, and he needs to find a clever way to be Dick Grayson and Nightwing at the same time.

Meanwhile, Heartless tries to steal power from Blockbuster to take control of Blüdhaven, and both of these big baddies have Nightwing in their sights.

The draftsman Brian Stelfreeze made the design for what remained the basis for Nightwing's costume in 1995. Redondo removed the blue calf cuffs and cuffs, restoring the stripes on the fingers and blue reflections on the feet of the original Stelfreeze design, which Dick wore for thirteen years until he took on the role of Batman in 2008, while retaining the "bird head" chest emblem that was originally part of Nightwing's. The new adventures of Batman design and modification of the collar and mask of the suit, among other small changes. Prior to the Stelfreeze design, the original Nightwing look was designed in 1983 by George Perez, and her second look came in 1992 courtesy of Tom Grummett.

Today on Twitter Redondo teased the new revelation of the dress with the cover image above, accompanied by the text “THOSE THOSE THINGS ARE BACK”.

Nightwing isn't the first member of the Bat family that Bruno Redondo has had the chance to design a new costume for. Earlier this year DC revealed a new look for Barbara Gordon's Batgirl, also designed by Redondo, and which will debut during the State of fear Bat-title crossover event.

Along with the two Redondo covers, DC also shared the variant cover for Nightwing # 88 of Jamal Campbell, which features both Dick and Babs, although the former still wears the dress he's been working on since 2016's DC Rebirth.

Look for the arrival of the new Nightwing costume in Nightwing # 88, out January 2022.
