The Center for Cyber Safety & Education launches & # 39; Garfield at Home & # 39;

The Nonprofit Center for Cyber Security and Education launches the new "Garfield at Home" program to teach children aged 6-11 how to be safe online from the comfort of their home.

“COVID-19 has shown us that internet safety education must be a priority, especially when dealing with younger children. The Center is here to help parents get rid of the guessing game of how to teach their kids about cybersecurity and what resources to use, ”said Patrick Craven, director of the Center.

"Garfield at Home" will present the winner Cyber Security Adventures of Garfield on a new digital platform where children will be able to learn Internet safety lessons about privacy, games, cyberbullying and illegal downloads through cartoons, game-based learning and storybook search and clicks. Children will earn digital badges as they test their knowledge across the different levels. Children will also have access to physical safety materials on the Internet, such as Garfield's Cyber Safety Adventures Coloring Book and the recently published Movie Adventure Comic Book.

“This is a comprehensive program that all children can enjoy regardless of their preferred learning method. We are thrilled to give parents the peace of mind knowing their children are safer online thanks to Garfield and his friends, ”Craven said.

Additionally, "Garfield at Home" will present a new Internet Safety Guide for Parents to help families continue the Internet safety conversation beyond "Garfield at Home" activities.

"At the Center, we believe that Internet security is not a one-time conversation, but rather a series of conversations to keep reminding children of cyber security best practices," continued the director. "We want to equip parents with the knowledge to teach their loved ones how to be safe online."

With the uncertainty about how schools will operate in the fall of 2020, "Garfield at Home" is the perfect summer tool to educate kids about online dangers with fun, easy-to-use content as a preventative measure. The new program is available for purchase here.

Cyber Security Adventures of Garfield It was originally introduced in the fall of 2016 by the Center and legendary cartoonist Jim Davis in the form of an educator kit to help teachers around the world teach internet safety. The kit includes cartoons, comics, posters, business cards and stickers showing Garfield and his friends tackling cybersecurity issues such as privacy, the dangers of online publishing, online etiquette, cyberbullying and more.

Cyber Security Adventures of Garfield he has already held over 170.000 safety lessons worldwide and the series has received the national award Learning magazine 2019 Teachers 'Choice Award, Academics' 2019 Smart Media Choice Award and 2020 Modern Library Award.
